When does the X-650 fan start spinning?

Thread Starter
I can't get the PSU fan to spin. According to Seasonic it supposed to kick up at 20% load but I read that it is different for everyone. Anyway, I tried stressing my computer to try to get the fan to spin and the most wattage that I was able to output was 360W but the fan still did not spin. Can anyone tell me there experience with the X-650? Have you ever seen your PSU fan spin?

Perhaps its thermal based rather than load based?

Before mine died I can't say I ever noticed if it was on or not. But then again I didn't check.

That is what I was thinking. I mean I didn't leave the thing running long at that load. I had to use P95 and 3Dmark11 just to get 360W.

How long did you have it before it died? Did you switch PSUs after you received the RMA?

The X-series are temperature based, not load, so no worries.
(I think its around 77F before it spins, don't quote me on that number)

From Seasonic site: 'The X automatically adjusts fan mode and speed according to the ambient temperature level.'

There is a little sticker on unit...

"Temperature Activated Fan
Rotates only when required"
