PSU Failure?

Thread Starter
Hello everyone.

So yesterday I built a new system.

Mobo: ASUS P8P67 PRO REV B3
CPU: Intel I7-2600K
GPU: Gainward GTX 460 GS 1024 MB
PSU: Corsair GS600 (600Watt) 80+

Everything worked fine: installed Windows 7, drivers, software. CPU cores temp while idling: 35 degree C. I played Battlefield Heroes 20 or 30 minutes and went to sleep.

Today i woke up and played BF Heroes for 20-30 minutes and the PC stopped.

I tried powering up, but the led flashed and fans started for a half second or so and stopped. I tried powering up again and nothing happened. Removed power from PSU, reconnected and tried again, same thing: for a half second led and fans powered up and then stopped.

If i remove the GPU and try to boot, it starts, everything keeps running until i power off. Obviously i have no display and the GPU error led lights up.

At this moment I strongly believe that the PSU is the problem. Either it was faulty and the higher load while in game pushed its limits, or I should have choosen a higher wattage PSU.

Anyone experienced things like this before? Any oppinions? I would greatly appreciate any feedback.
Thanks in advance.

I think its your GPU because the same thing happed to me, If when you run it with the GPU in it and it makes one long beep and two short beeps it is the GPU. If so I would RMA it and get a new one. Your PSU has plenty of power to run the computer.

No, the computer is not posting. For half a second it acts like it is going to start, but then it stops: cpu and gpu fans make half a spin and leds light up for less than one second.
What makes me think its your card is that when you run it without it the computer posts and runs, do you have a second card to test this with?

You could also try resetting your Bios and see if that helps. Is your card overclocked?

Unfortunately i don't have a second card to test. I tried resetting the BIOS but the problem persists. None of the components are OC-ed and I've seen config with similar PSU-s that run without problems.

What made me think that it is the PSU was the sudden poweroff.

What would tell me the most about the problem is the beeps that your computer makes if you have the speaker in it.

Well with the GPU inside it is not posting. As I said, it doesn't get there. It just starts for half of a second (the fans barely move and the leds barely light up). Should I write doun the beeps it makes when the GPU is removed?

it should be between 1 and 4 beeps. just remember if they are long beeps or what. my old board used to beep like 1 long. 2 short for a RAM error.
