[Engadget]AT&T buys T-Mobile ; Wants AWS Spectrum for LTE - Page 15

I almost switched to T-Mobile last weekend but the guy at the booth in the mall tried to sell me a $80 phone and claimed it cost $200 but he'd discount it to $100..... then he charges me a restocking fee to return it.

Must have happened for a reason, but I called T-Mobile's home office on him to get my restocking fee refunded. Good Times!

Do I get to keep my current plan if im with Tmobile? And how can I keep it for since it expired nearly 2 years ago.

I'd be pi$$ed if I was with TMo. They will probably start dropping 50 calls a day like I did with AT&T. Worst network on the planet behind Verizon because it's so freaking slow.

Ouch, 50 dropped calls a day? I've AT&T for years (even when they were "Cingular") and I probably haven't had half as many dropped calls as that since I've been on-board. You have to realize that the service depends a lot on the area being served. In this case, some networks are just better than others... based on your location.

In any case, they are combining the infrastructures, and not just dumping TMo's and switching to AT&T, so I don't think you have anything to worry about.

At least my kid will have a nation wide wireless network that is doing 1Gbs.
Ah, no actually it's the exact opposite of what you said. If a company has no competition, then there's no drive to expand the infrastructure, because there's no need to offer better services, as nobody is going to be enticing your customers away with more stuff.

The theory is that T-Mobile customers won't notice much of a difference if any at all, and AT&T customers will see improvements as both "companies" will share network equipment.

The problem is that it's a theory, we'll see how it works later on in reality.

I think you have that the other way around. As it stands now, AT&T's infrastructure is quite a bit larger than TMo's. Both sides should see call quality and reception improvements if the merger closes.

So much raging in this thread... the merger is still roughly a year out (as in, the completion of). We also have no idea of the details of this event; we don't what will stay, what will change, if rebranding will occur, etc.

Just forget about it, let the next year go on, and decide from there. If AT&T screws us T-Mobile subscribers over, you bet we'll be raging then. They'll have to grandfather our plans over, otherwise they'll be losing a lot of subscribers.

I have T-mobile and I don't have coverage in the most inconvenient places, and according to this article http://tinyurl.com/4whreb3 my coverage is only going to get better so I welcome the merger.

Flipping through the slide deck accompanying a hastily-arranged press conference this morning to talk up AT&T's planned acquisition of T-Mobile USA, it's now clear that the company is interested in augmenting its 700MHz LTE spectrum with T-Mobile's 1700MHz AWS airwaves -- a move that it says would help it deploy LTE to 95 percent of the American population. AWS is currently used by T-Mobile for its 3G services, but running LTE there isn't without precedent -- that's where MetroPCS is already set up, so there's some potential for consumer hardware and infrastructure synergy there.

someone mentioned this early on the in the thread. Here's your answer to their plans on the spectrums
