Wife just destroyed my laptop, recommend me a new one

Well, she thought it'd be a great idea to keep her drink near her leg on the couch, spilled 32oz of water directly onto the laptop, then freaked and threw it out of the way and managed to step onto it in a mad dash to get towels.

My ol' laptop is DEAD

It was a Dell Inspiron that was 3 years old, I pulled hard drive and what else I think might still work, but it had given me problems in the past so probably not going to go with DELL again

What brands would you all recommend or models?

Will just be used for basic websurfing and reading overclock.net from the couch, nothing intensive. Don't want to spend over...$800

Sony have a good reliability, HP have okay quality, but their repair time is fantastic. ASUS usually takes a while, but they fix the problem (mediocre build quality). Lenovo same as Sony.

Personally I would look into Lenovos or Sonys, I would lean more towards Lenovo though.

I haven't had luck with sony VAIO's or Toshiba's. Overheat issues on both.

If you're just looking for something to surf on, why not something like a netbook? Just a suggestion as they're significantly cheaper.

I'd recommend HP, Lenovo, or Dell. HP did have battery issues a back in 2007; but that's long been corrected. My buddy has a Ibuypower that has been trucking for 2 years with an Iraq deployment and Afghanistan deployment; so it does fairly well with abuse.
