Well, is it really more profitable for them to release the game multi-platform? I almost NEVER buy games for the consoles. In fact, the two reasons I have the consoles is 1) console exclusives that are good (Red Dead Redemption, Halo: Reach) and 2) I can rent games that I want to play but ones that I don't care enough about to pay $60 for.
I don't know if places that rent games have to pay extra to rent them or not, but still, a rental does not make nearly as much money for the publishers and developers.

On the PC though you have to buy it. Yeah you can get it off of eBay or wait a year until it goes down 10 or 20 dollars but if a game is really good I'd guess that most people want to buy it around launch (at least that is what I do). Also, there are no PC game rentals (at least in the US, and no piracy does not count as renting it, it is just illegal). I was actually going to buy Crysis 2 within 2 weeks of its release but now that I am hearing about how the PC version is basically a console clone (no DX11 at launch, only three graphics options, etc.) I don't think I am going to buy it now. I may rent it for the console, but that is it.

I will guess that it will probably still a good profit, as most people probably aren't as stingy as I am.

Anyway, for anyone who is complaining (or defending the game), I think it should be made clear that Crysis 2 is NOT a console port. The game was made for the PC and converted to Xbox and Playstation versions through the CryEngine 3 development platform. What would be more accurate to say is that the game was designed with the consoles in mind, so it looks and feels more like a console game even though it was originally made for the PC. Disclaimer: I believe the information above to be correct, but I cannot guarantee that it actually is 100% correct.

Responding to the thread topic though: no I do not hate Crytek. Hate is pretty strong. I am disappointed in them, ultimately they'll probably just lose a sale from me. They may very well get two or three console gamers to take my place, so whatever. There are plenty of other games for me to play out there. Even being a console clone, it still may be a good game, but I can't spend $60 just to find out. Maybe if they released, I dunno, a single player demo I could see if it was any good.

If they wanted to go multiplatform they could have at least: had DX11 support when the game shipped, and have detailed graphics options like any proper PC game should have. That wouldn't have fixed everything but that would have stopped a lot of complaints. Even EA/DICE, who didn't even release Bad Company for the PC and released Bad Company 2 for the PC with only a 8 player capacity increase are releasing their next game with PC only features. In fact, Battlefield 3 is DX11 ONLY. It also is going to support a full 64 players. I don't think anybody reasonable is going to be upset at a company for making a multiplatform game. What people get upset about is when the PC version has little or no differing features at all, even when most PCs are way more powerful than the consoles.

This seems to be happening more and more. A game will start out on the PC and will be great. Then the company will decide to expand the user base and make more money by going multiplatform. Then, when the game releases, it (gameplay, graphics, etc.) has been redesigned to work on the consoles and then the original PC audience doesn't really like it as much.

I almost don't even want to pay attention to mainstream games anymore. It seems all of them are becoming semi-casual experiences STALKER on the PC is probably completely unknown by most people but it was great (although a bit buggy). Similarly, I hear Cryostasis was also awesome (I haven't started it yet), but most people probably haven't heard of it either. That might not even work though, I hear that STALKER 2 (sequel to Pripyat) is going to be multiplatform. I guess it will be ok as long as they don't change it a whole lot.

the original crysis is revered especially by us computer enthusiasts as one of the best, and most demanding games, especially for its time. granted now-a-days its been outdone as far as performance and gameplay goes, but for crytek to attempt to make a sequal to a game of this caliber was sure to be a disappointment. RARELY are sequels that awe inspiring, and are generally flops. Mafia 2 anyone? Granted I would imagine alot of the hate comes from the numerous issues with the launcher, updates, and whatever else i havent come across but be mindful that yet again, THIS IS A SEQUEL.

What game has outdone Crysis, besides maybe Metro?

You all have a point, but seriously Crysis 2 is an awesome game none the less and it looks epic on pc. I am getting it first thing on the 25th. If you don't want to buy it then don't. Stop trying to make people think that Crysis 2 sucks, it looks INCREDIBLE. Plus it looks like there is going to be a DX11 patch after all which will only make this awesome game even better. If you want to rage at me now, go rage at all the reviewers like Metacritic and PCGamer that gave it 9/10, 88%, 89% as well. So far even the PC version is loved. The biggest thing in Crysis is adapt, engage, survive. SO ADAPT, shut the hell up and don't worry I am sure that you will survive. Trolls always seem to survive everything.....

Don't make me answer that question. Obviously you have not played the original. There is nothing wrong with the game itself. It should just be divorced from the Mafia name. That is all.
