6990

The GTX590 will come out march 24th, you should compare the 6990 to that.

EDIT: If you're getting a 2500K, the 6990's $700 pricetag doesn't really fit... what resolution is your monitor? if its 1080p or less, 6990 is COMPLETE overkill and you should be looking at a GTX570 or HD6950.

if you have money to burn by all means 6990, its not worth IMO. GTX 580 then sli it later down the road.

the 6990 is quite a bit faster in terms of sheer performance however unless they fixed them ive heard of a few problems with them overheating and shutting down your system (could be wrong tho)
I would personally go with the 6990 but im also abit of a fanboy. Do you plan on watercooling or air cooling also hows the airflow in your case as that will make a difference running these very high end cards

I tell you right now! My airflow is amazing! I have 5 fans 4x 120 mm's and 1x 140mm and all my things (including CPU) Idle at 25c - 30c it is Air cooled but I modded my case and painted it white

Ofcourse HD6990 is faster(by large margin)
although I'm an AMD fan boy I wanna remember u one thing for sure,
u shouldnt compare a single gpu(gtx580) card with a dual gpu card(hd6990)
btw,
I would suggest u a better upgrade at a cheaper price than hd6990,
get 2x hd6970,
each gpu costs $330 at newegg,so 2 cards costs $660 which is cheaper than hd6990,
moreover 2x hd6970 crossfire is faster than hd6990 because a hd6990 consists of 2 underclocked hd6970.
HOPE THIS HELPS U
