AMD Athlon II X2 250 Regor High Idle Temp Issue...

Thread Starter
Hi all,

Idle Temp: 37-38c
System Temp: 26c
Ambient Temp:22c

Motherboard: MSI 760GM-P33

I have built several units for my office using the 245/250 Regor. This is the first time I have seen the temperature this high. Keep in mind I am using the stock cooler but I always have used the stock cooler when building basic office machines.

I cleaned the cpu and cooler and reseated the cooler after applying new thermal paste instead of the stuff that came pre-applied. This maybe made 1/2 degree of difference. sometimes it goes to 37 now instead of solid 38. The CPU fan is spinning at around 3200 RPM.

Any idea's on what may be the issue here? I am here to answer questions or give additional information.

Thanks to anyone that may be able to lend a hand.

it may happen because of your pc case, there may not be good air flow,
my pc case(a generic one) also has bad air flow so my cpu temp are same as yours,
so I'm thinking of upgrading to a cooler master elite430 later this year

My old cooler used to idle at the same temp, but load it never went over 45c.
What are your temps for 100% load for several minutes?

Jaguar,

Thanks a lot for your input I appreciate it! I don't know as of yet. Just built the machine this evening and this is after just booting posting, and heading into the bios. I have not yet installed the OS on this machine.

Do you think it is worthwhile to continue on and install the OS? I was of course trying to solve the issue and have everything all set before installing, but if you think this is a good course of action I will go ahead with it. No harm in going ahead with it right as far as being concerned of the temps while installing, etc?

Also... should there be such a discrepency between the system temp and ambient temp vs the cpu temp?

check the core voltage, if its 1.4+ it will run warmer
in bios see if you can lower it to around 0.9-1.2

its only a 65w cpu, shouldnt get that warm at idle
the temps are ok, max is 74c

Great. Will fire it up and check what the voltage is later tonight.
Thank you so much for your input. Hopefully somehow it is set to something else...

Is there any reason the core voltage would default to something different?
