AMD Athlon II X2 250 Regor High Idle Temp Issue... - Page 2

You sure you have C&Q enabled? My old Sempron 140 loaded and idled at the same temp, 45 C, OC'd to 3.2 GHz. That could do it.

on my htpc build
the with that board MSI 785GM-P45, the lowest cpu core v option is 1.4
doesnt hurt, but the pii 560 idles in the mid 30s
doesnt break 54c under load tho

with c&q on, it lowers it to .85 and drops the cpu multi to 4 (x 200 = 800mhz)

I am at my wits end with this problem. I cannot get the cpu temp to get any lower than mention in the original post. I don't understand why in this situation this is happening. As I mentioned, I have built plenty of machines with the regor processors in the past and never had such high idles temps.

Does anyone have any more suggestions? Is it possible there is an issue with the stock cooler? Is it possible there is an issue with the cpu itself?

I cannot put this computer into use in an office with such a high idle temp, it just wouldn't be right, for such a low wattage cpu it should not produce this much heat imo.

Any more thoughts? Any help at all is truly appreciated.

Thank you.

Very nice!

But, it seems SO many people get max around high 20's on the stock cooler. That's why I am concerned. This is more what I have experienced in the past.

When i got my 250 regor and decided to change thermal paste, and go for artic silver 5. The original pasta had burned into the cooler and cpu so when i loose my cooler the cpu followed up as well. So if u havent changed the termal paste, do it!

Did this MB come with the bios needed for the 250 ? (v10 I think ?)

Have you tried clearing cmos yet ?

Toss this proc in one of the other rigs at the office to verify.

Thanks for the response ku4jb...

When you say v10, I'm not sure what you mean?

It is the most recently v1.3 listed here:
http://www.msi.com/product/mb/760GM-P33.html#?div=BIOS

I haven't tried clearing CMOS yet, you really think that would do anything? I guess it wouldn't hurt hehe.

Not unless you updated the bios and haven't cleared it yet.

As ffejrxx mentioned, what is the vcore set to ?

I believe in the bios the cpu voltage would go no lower than 1.385 or something close to this. I will check the exact when I am back at the house momentarily and report back. I do remember it would not get much lower if any than 1.38X.

Would there be any way to make this lower even if the bios won't let me? I would think not. I have never used AMD Overdrive, would this have any impact?

Thanks for your help.
