I just built an identical rig except I gtx 460 on hand.

I'd suggest not getting green drive I went with a samsung spinpoint f3.

I am happy with it but it's my Linux rig so no gaming really but it performs well and I was able to OC the i3 560 to 4.25 really easily.

I'd say a 2500k with a GTS 450 SC a HAF 922, a Cooler Master H520/N212+ CPU Cooler, and PSU for later recommendation depending on your other components and such

If it's for them and they aren't going to overclock it, I would stick with the i5 2500 and shave some $$. Consider not getting a case and re-using their existing case, too, then get them a smallish - 320GB - HDD for their OS.

Speaking of OS, is that price included in the build?

Good question. I was going to recommend them using their old case too but then I didn't know if they were going to use that for something else now. Yeah they could probably go without the unlocked processor.
I was also wondering what was meant by picked up if they were asking about parts lol
I figured they'd use their old HDD
