[BD] Dragon Age 2 DRM debate continues

Last week there was a lot of "he said, she said" accusations about the PC version of Dragon Age 2's DRM set up. A self-appointed watchdog web site called Reclaim Your Game claims that the PC port of BioWare's RPG sequel had used SecuROM without revealing that fact to consumers. BioWare reps denied that, stating that the PC version used a release control software made by the same company that also made SecuROM but that the two were not the same product.

Now Reclaim Your Game has fired back, saying that Dragon Age 2's use of the company's release control product is just another form of SecuROM, stating, "Contrary to what EA and Bioware have stated, SecuROM Release Control is implemented in Dragon Age 2 without Consumer notification through its Game Packaging, Manual, Readme and EULA." The organization also claims that it won't help BioWare with "fixing" this situation while at the same time offering its services to other game publishers and developers.

I might buy the first DA, never played that game.

As for DA2, well the PC gaming market is over saturated with console ports.

What's secure ROM btw ?

SecuROM is a controversial CD/DVD copy protection and digital rights management product developed by Sony DADC. SecuROM aims to resist home media duplication devices, professional duplicators, and attempts at reverse engineering software. It is most often used for commercial computer games running under the Microsoft Windows platform.

Many opponents, including the Electronic Frontier Foundation, believe SecuROM, like many DRM applications, is used to restrict one's fair-use rights. The use of SecuROM has generated controversy because it is not uninstalled upon removal of the game. In 2008, a class-action lawsuit was filed against Electronic Arts for its use of SecuROM in the video game Spore.

From what I hear, first DA is worth it. Second one? Not really.

Good choice, had hours of fun in the first, the expansion is fun but too easy. DA2 is horrible

The game was a pretty damn good game. Is it a port? Not at all, if it is, they actually took the time with it to make sure nothing consolish made it's way into the game. It's a full on proper PC RPG.

I'm very....VERY..cynical when it comes to PC games especially with all the dumbing down that's been going on for the new retarded breed of pew pew kids.....I bought 2 copies of DA.

I didn't know anything about the game, I refused to follow anything on it, then I was told, and I found out after researching, the game only came with a simple disk check. So I bought the game on pure principle of that.

I got the game in the mail, looked meh, installed it just to see what it was about...next thing I know it's 10 hours later and I'm calling into work the next day cause I didn't sleep lol! So....I bought the collector's edition next

I couldn't care less about Dragon Age 2.

On top of that, I'm tired of being treated like a criminal.
