Hi guys, I decided I needed a new computer and thought that building it myself would be fun. The computer is going to be used for everyday stuff and playing some games.

Here are some parts I picked out:

http://ncix.com/products/index.php?s...0&promoid=1280 NCIX Gaming Bundle Deal Core i5 2500K & MSI P67A-G45 SLI Motherboard

Is this motherboard ok? I couldn't even find it on MSI's website.

SAPPHIRE 100314SR Radeon HD 6870 1GB 256-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 2.1 x16 HDCP Ready CrossFireX Support Video Card with Eyefinity

G.SKILL Ripjaws X Series 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Desktop Memory Model F3-12800CL8D-4GBXM

Just picked this b/c it was advertised as specifically built for a P67 mobo.

Just picked this one cause it looked popular. Case suggestions? I'm looking for something that's easy to build in as I'm a huge noob.

These parts add up to about $1100. I don't have an exact budget in mind, but I want to stay somewhere in this range. Suggestions on any/all parts are welcome.

  1. Replace that MSI motherboard with a ASRock P67 EXTREME4 (same features as the Asus P8P67 Pro, but $20 less).
  2. Replace the Western Digital Caviar Black with a Samsung F3 (the Samsung F3 is both faster and cheaper).
  3. Replace that Corsair 750W for an OCZ ModXStream Pro 650W (as you don't need that much power, and 650W will still leave you enough room to upgrade in the future).
  4. Replace that LG monitor with either a Asus VW246H (24'', CCFL), Asus VE247H (23.6'', LED), Asus VH236H (23'', CCFL), or Asus VH238H (23'', LED).

You could upgrade your RAM if you want tighter timings, but it is by no means necessary. Concerning your case, I really recommend the CM690 II Advanced. It's a fantastic case, both for air and water.

Swapped the PSU, which looks like an awesome deal, saving me ~$50. I'll keep an eye out for the motherboard, but it's on back order right now. This seems like the case with 90% of the P67 boards.

I was originally looking at the VH238H monitor and I think I'll end up buying it. Seems like all of Asus' $200ish price point monitors are pretty highly regarded.

Thanks

If you plan on upgrading to high end video, or going crossfire the 750psu or bigger may not be a bad idea! ( just my opinion ) I have a xfx black 650, running my family pc with a single gpu, it is plenty!
here is a psu calculator, i know some people dont like them usually the ones wearing the tin foil hats! HA HA just playing-- but it can give you a general idea of what you need!

http://c1.neweggimages.com/BizIntell...owersupply.jpg

Also i own a antec 600, great airflow , horrible cable manegment, not painted on the inside, i would look at coolermaster, corsair, or some of the other cases with better features , it will make your build a breeze!!

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16811119230

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16811119196

there are lots of better affordable cases out there.

I would get a better cpu cooler, definitly if you plan to overclock at all!!

I also really like my LG monitor!!!

I would also keep the WD black, better drive for your OS, Samsung if just needed for storage!

Just remember if you get what you pay for! ( i really believe that! )

I wouldn't trust PSU calculators. Reviews by sites such as techpowerup are much more reliable.
The 6870, at full load, will only consume about 165W (~190W OC'd). Therefore, two of them in Crossfire would only consume about 330W (~370W).
At the wall, a Core i7 2600k OC'd to 4.8GHz draws around 235W.
So, overall, the system will draw somewhere around 600W, and this is at FULL load (if LinX and Furmark were running simultaneously). A 650W PSU is just fine.

The PSU calculator gave me 481watts. I don't think I'll be adding a second video card anytime soon, but I didn't even think I'd even be building a computer a week ago also.

I've been checking out all the Coolermaster cases recommended and they all look pretty sweet with the tool-free installation. There's just so many to decide on, I can't make up my mind!

I have a HAF-X , and i really like it, my only advice is look for features like cable managment, upgrade and expansion options, if its in your budget i would spend a little more on a case, you will thank yourself later!!!

It's a fantastic case, both for air and water.
well actually they trade blows, caviar black commming out on top most of the time albeit not by much.

So they are technically better but for cheaper u can get the samsungs for about the samish performence (slightly lower)

The Samsung F3 is generally better concerning seq. read/write, while the WD Caviar Black is generally better concerning IOPS.

Most people, at least on OCN, use an SSD for their OS (where you want the most IOPS) and HDDs for data (where you want the greatest seq. read/write). So the F3 generally seems faster.

Plus, the 1TB F3 is usually around $15 less than the 1TB Caviar Black.
