8600Gt will not install on family computer

Ok guys here we go,

a couple of months ago a good friend on a FPS game ditched his old Evga 8600GT's for something newer, he sent one to me and one to another clan mate at no charge so i chose to use it in the family computer since the X350 was not cutting it anymore. After a few weeks of use I booted up one morning just to see random Purple lines in a top to bottom fashion, thought well great I'll just bake it later on and see what happens. So tonight i chose to try to install it to see if it magically fixed itself while siting in my closet, well it does boot with the VGA adapter on it but i have no screen image.

cant see to install drivers.

What do i do?

If it's artifacting in Windows and on the POST screen, it's likely to either be overheating, bad memory chip(s), bad power source (unlikely if your card is only relying on power from the PCI-E slot though), or bulging/swelling caps. Try:

1. Reapplying a fresh layer of TIM, clean out the cooler, and reseat it.
2. Check airflow to the card and/or aim a fan at it.
3. Do a visual inspection to see if you have any bulging/swelling capacitors.

Baking the card would be my absolute last resort.

Maybe I missed this, but what adapter are you talking about? And kind of display is it hooking up to?
