Exactly this. I started off getting one of those cheapo tripods, thinking "they're all the same, right?"

Absolutely not. My XTi was much lighter than my 50D, and even then it couldn't keep my XTi stable. Noticeable motion blur in wind with long exposures, rocks a bit, and broke apart in two months.

I spent more on a good carbon fiber tripod with a Manfrotto ball joint head, and have since not regretted it. Rock solid yet much lighter and the ball joint head is so much easier to use + frame my shots with.

It's a pain waiting, but in this case, I think it's worth it.

And I can't save money, $50 is about all I can spend on it.
Very cheap parts/build quality, and I'm willing to bet my own tripod that they can't keep my camera steady enough and will break apart easily.

If you can't save anymore, then of course get them, but if you can save even small amounts over time, I'd definitely get at the very least $100.

just get the cheapest tripod you can find then. since its a fairly light camcorder you should be find with even a 20 dollar tripod. but dont say we didnt warn you if the tripod craps out and kills your camcorder.

Well what's the best one for $50? There is surely a difference between a $20 and $50 one.

Edit: As long as it lasts for ~6 months I'm fine with it. (After that I have access to $200-400 tripods through school)

Believe it or not, there isn't much of a difference between $20 and $50, at least not in my experience. For the extra price, they usually add on something like a pan handle, QRP, or extra height, but no improvements for build quality, which is what matters.

Honestly, if you're set on a <$80-$100 tripod, you're probably best off buying the cheapest one you can find.

So any suggestions on one good for video?

Absolutely love it, although battery life is only like 1 hour long.

Just save a bit more, a tripod is something you shouldn't skimp on, or glass. Get a manfrotto for around $100 I love mine

So please, no more "Save more money" posts. You guys have answers for people who want $500 computers, so please help me on this with my price range.
