Which is the best keyboard for a speed typist?

Thread Starter
Which is the best keyboard for a speed typist? I'm looking to increase my WPM just for the sake of it. Even a 10-20 WPM boost would allow me to compete with the current fastest typist (who I think is Sean Wrona, the guy who won the Das Keyboard typing contest).

I'm currently using a Steelseries 6gv2 (cherry MX blacks) but I know that cherry MX blacks aren't the best for typing.

Which keyboard would you guys recommend for me?

Here is a video of me typing on my 6gv2 (not my best score but I just happened to record it because I was going up against a known cheater).

Going up against a cheater in that video. This guy apparently wants to convince others to not cheat.... by cheating.

I think most people on the forum think MX blues are the best for typing. The best choice would probably be the OCN ducky with blues. I have a kb with blues now and I got about a 12 wpm increase after I got used to it.

The Blackwiddow has MX Blues, but has slightly cheaper construction than a Ducky, Deck, or Das which also have blues. But its about $30-50 cheaper

The Black Widow was once on sale for $56 at Newegg. I think I'll wait for that to happen again (hopefully soon). I can't afford paying more than $80 for a keyboard so the Ducky is out of the question. frown.gif

Ever since I got my Das Ultimate with MX blues my speed, accuracy, and overall typing has skyrocketed.
I was using a Razer Lycosa [that thing was a nightmare to type on] I averaged about 65wpm on typeracer, I plugged this in and hit 109 without any prior use.
I find it very comfortable to type on as well, I, personally enjoy the clicking. smile.gif

Erm.. 161WPM isn't enough for you? O_o

I think most its more switch dependent than it is board dependent; a Filco MX Blue is unlikely to be faster or slower than a Leopold MX Blue, I say this because the key spacings and layout are pretty consistent between Cherry boards. Aural feedback and slightly different weighted keycaps make a lot of subjective difference, but I doubt it translates to statistically relevant increases in typing speed.

Since people all have different ways of typing it may be worth trying out different keyboards, if you want to go for ultimate speed it may be worth trying out variable weighted boards like the Topres or soldering your own switches to individual keys to optimize their weights and tactile feels.
