Noctua Nh-d14 to tie me over till next system?

Hey all.
I am hoping to get the funds to but a new computer (fingers crossed) in the next seven months. My framerates are dropping on some more recent games, and i dont want to blow my money on a new GPU (Ill do that when i can get one for the new comp). Would it be worth it to get a Noctua Nh-D14 cooler now so i can overclock this system to up my FPS, and then put that on my new rig later, reinstalling this crap one on my PC when I sell it?
Thanks

Thing about Noctua is that if future sockets (in this case, possible LGA 2011 or 1356) might be physically different than say LGA 1366 they'll send over a proper socket bracket mounting hardware for it if you mail them, they'll send the proper hardware for free. I asked them myself about this regarding AM3+ and they said if AM3+ did turn out to be physically different than AM3, they would. Even though AM3+ is the same as AM3. So yea a D14 is basically perfect for what you need. But I went with Thermalright though, o well.

As for OC'ing with that processor, a D14 is great since it's one of the best air coolers available. As always make sure your ram should fit, as long as it doesn't have heatsinks like Corsair Dominators, it should fit fine.

Are there any other coolers coming out that will be competitive with the Noctua or that will surpass it? Anything i should wait for, or should i hop on amazon right now and order this. Also, how dramatic of a difference is there between 2.83 and 4.0 GHz?

Thanks all of you for answering my questions

Do you think this cooler could take my CPU to 4.0 GHz?

No mention of even a H70, or Thermalright Silver Arrow or Archon, for shame.

As for making 4ghz on a D14, no idea.

I heard the Noctua is cheaper than the H70 and outperforms it though.

Yeah but so does Archon, SA. But if someone is gonna make references to air coolers that are great but not at the very top of their class, I can make a half-assed reference to a hybrid water cooler that costs more too.

In all seriousness, you got 3 main options. D14, Archon, SA. Everything else is below them basically. Can also put Megahalems into the pool for consideration too (doesn't came with fans).
