sound quality from ati vga vs sound card??

hi,

i want ask..

if anyone has ever heard with a direct comparison between sound from sound card vs sound from the ati vga card (5850 toxic) ? (for watch movie in 5.1 connect to a/v receiver)

which one produce best quality sound?

if sound card, which brand?

sound card is analoug. ATi is pass thru (digital). Not the same. ATi relies on your reciever or TV to process the signal into an analoug one your speakers may use.

sound card is analog? isn't it digital if use optical cable?

The digital out from the sound card should be the same as the digital out from a graphics card. Only difference I can think of is that some aftermarket sound cards have extra stuff like DTS and Dolby decoding/encoding.

If your watching blu-ray and your reciever can decode them then the HDMI from your GFX will support the full-HD audio formats, digital from a soundcard is limited to 5.1 DD or DTS. Apart from that they'll be the same.
