My first OC. e5200

Thread Starter
Hello. I just did my first OC ever and I just want to check with you skilled people whether my settings and readings are ok.
It's an e5200 2,5 ghz @ "3.something".
Bios says it's 3.2Ghz, Windows says it's 3.33ghz, cpuz says it's 3191,7mhz and speedfan says it's 3325Mhz. I wonder which is correct.
Anyway, it's on a Gigabyte ep35-ds3 board with 6gb ram.
Cooling is done by a Scythe mugen 2.

So, kindly have a look at my readings and tell me whether my figures are fine or not.

By the way: I kept "speedstep" or what's-it-called enabled, so it downclocks automatically, as I don't need it running at full speed when surfing

Thank you for your advice. Do you think my settings/readings are ok? I have 0 experience with OC'ing.

nice temps seam in check, gonna push it a bit more?

keep your volts under 1.35v and temps under 55.
and should be alright

can any one double check those numbers for me though?

oh and welcome
if you go into user CP ( up the top of the page ) -> click add new system -> and fill out all your computers details will help now, or in the future enjoy your stay

Thank you I think I'll leave it at this. I'm not brave enough to push it much further, although I read it's a great cpu for oc'ing.

That's a great 55 degrees tip. Yesterday I tested it with prime95 and temp went up to 53 but then dropped again. Now i tested it in real world with Photoshop at full load and running firefox and it barely reached 50C, so I guess I'm happy then. I thought I picked up somewhere that the cpu can go upto 75C and 65C being a "safe" max, but I'll stick to your advice at 55C

Thanks for the welcome

you could go higher, but just googled it and checked 2 or 3 forums and they recommened stay under 55 - 60 for 24/7.

Dont worry the Overclocking bug will come back and bite you, it always does

intel played it safe with the 45nm core2's.

they can handle 1.4 volts, and 65c to 75c safely, doubt you will need 1.4, i know plenty of people who have been able to get these things up to 4.2+ghz on air, with 1.35 volts, and stay well below 65c.

the cores themselves can handle about 95c, but you really don't want to consider that "safe" as thats the thermal limits...bios would shutoff the computer long before those (most default to around 78c for core2).

Thanks for the great info. Now I can rest assured that my rig won't burn up
However, I have a question about the Vcore2 reading in speedfan. It says 2.02V... Am I not destroying anything right now? Because the cores seem pretty cool but 2.02V seems scary

Thanks, but I'll keep it on 3.2 for now, because in summer it gets to 35C/95F in the room where this pc is sitting
