Canon T3i or 60D

Hey everybody, came here to get some opinions on a dillema i'm having. So i've had some experience with point & shoots, but now i'm very interested in getting into photography with a DSLR. So with that being said, i'm a certified n00b. I'm mainly going to be taking pictures, with the occasional video here and there, nothing serious. I'd also like to pick up a fisheye and macro lens down the road. The two that i'm looking at is either the T3i or the 60D. I'm trying to keep it under a grand ($) if i can. So with the T3i kit, I may be able to get a good deal on a new one, possibly on the 60D too but most likley only on the T3i. Now is it worth it to shell out the extra few hundred on the 60D and get either a kit or buy a lens seperatly? I've been reading some reviews on the two and i think it only made the decision worse... confused.gif I have read that the T3i and 60D have very similar picture and video quality, just that the 60D has more features but stripped of some of the 50D features which were favored. So that is why i came here, to get some of your guys opinions! Which of the two do you think i should go for?

If you are going photo mind set (not much video) then I would go with the 60D. The Ti series is more focused towards videophiles. You will be very pleased with the 60D, I have a 40D and a T1i smile.gif

And I would get the 60D with the kit lens and get a 50mm lens.

Great lens for the $!

Not at all. The video is just an added bonus, if that were true they would have done a better job making it into more like a video camera.

I would go for the T3i. The 60D doesn't feel like a XXD series camera. More like an expensive T2i. It feels cheap for a XXD camera, it doesn't have a magnesium alloy body like the older bodies (not platic at least), smaller and a little more cumbersome to use as well.

Not that it's a bad camera. It's superb, but just doesn't have the prosumer body feel.

Even then you could go for the T2i. The T3i added some minor things a wireless Speedlite transmitter and an articulating screen. It's just slightly bigger as well.

I've never heard that. How is that so? That was certainly true for the 50D and earlier (which had no video), but the 60D has the same video capability as the T3i.

If anything, videophiles use the 5D Mark II.

What i was reading is that the T3i and the 60D are basically identical in picture and video quality. I just don't want to spend the extra money on features that i'm not sure are worth it for me when i can spend that cash on some lenses. I'd like to get a fisheye and macro lens down the road and possibly a few others.

I was referring to my 40D guys on the video part -_- sorry. I would go with the T3i then Sanders. I love my T1i. If they are almost the same and the T3i is cheaper then get it. I would go between the T2i or the T3i to be honest.

I'd definitely look at a T2i. They're cheaper than either camera but have the same sensor as the 60D/T3i, giving it the same image and video qualities as either camera. All it lacks really is the integrated wireless flash commander and swivel screen.

I also second the idea of lenses>body, but just a note that as far as I've seen, true fisheyes cost a lot of money.

If you're interested, I have a bit on the 60D, T3i, and T2i in the link in my sig.

Good suggestion on the t2i. Gonna look into this since I seen some of them cheaper then the t3i by 100-200 dollars. Will the t2i be discontinued since the t3i is an update?

The big difference in the 60D is its auto focus system (9 cross-type points, much better for low light and moving subjects), burst rate (5 versus 3 with a larger buffer), and better ergonomics.

Since you're just starting out, I would go for the t3i, or better yet (as reincarnated suggested), go for a T2i t T1i. Not a lot of huge differences in the T1/2/3i. Grab the kit and pick up a 50mm f/1.8 and/or 55-250.

Although the T1i and T2i are discontinued, there are still new ones being sold.
