i3-2100T vs C2D E6750

Thread Starter
Will I notice a significant change (i.e. will it be slower?) if I switch to an i3-2100T from an E6750 @ stock?

I don't play PC games and generally use the system for media playback and some light photoshop work, so a newer low power system seems appealing.

I plan to use a H67 motherboard or a P67 motherboard + HD5450

Thanks in advance

There's no way the new SB core will be slower than the C2D.
You should see much improvement over the old conroe by the 2100T, even though it lacks turbo-boost, the much superior design is much faster clock to clock than the old conroe C2D.

That being said, go with the H67, save you money and the HD5450 is on par with the newer Intel gpu, but they both are quite slow that you won't tell the difference, so no point getting a more expensive P67 board and an extra video card when you already have a GPU core on die.

Thanks for the quick reply

The reason for the HD5450 was due to the SB issues with 23.976 fps playback

The E6750 can't even compare to the i3 2100.

Even if you OC the E6750 to something like 3.5ghz, the i3 2100 will beat it senseless.

While both are dual core CPUs, it's not even fair to the E6750.

But the E6750 is still a great gaming chip, don't get me wrong.

In that case, H67 + HD5450 will also work smile.gif
E6750 is a great chip but it's outdated, even a $50 Athlon II X2 will give it a run these days.

If you Oc the E6750, it will easily match or be really close to the Phenom II X2, which is faster than the dual core Athlon II.

But both are great anyway smile.gif

Thanks for the help

It was a choice between the i3-2100T and the i3-540 for a low power system, but the 35w TDP of the i3-2100T swayed my decision to go SB

You can say the same to the PII and AII, they have no problem reaching 3.8+ on stock cooling. If you factor in max oc, I don't think the old C2D can clock that high easily.

Just a quick question (going a bit off topic)

I know this will have been posted before but will the i3-2100T be the better chip to go for compared to the i3-540 despite its lower clock speed?

Both will cost around the same to upgrade (~£340/350 not including the HD5450, adding an extra £180 if I decide to build an ITX system)
