Can't connect to networks anymore?

Thread Starter
okay, so my computer was up for 19 days, i rebooted it.... (updates, any changes i've done etc) and then it would not get an IP.
i at first, figured that was a network issue
i checked out my network, made sure everything looked good in m0n0wall and dd-wrt, considering i've not changed anything in months.

still nothing, so i tried to manually set my IP, first to my static ip set by m0n0wall, then to an ip within my normal DHCP range, neither granted me access.
To test that it wasn't an issue with my cable, or with my switch or anything, i tried a different cable, plugging it into a wrt54g router with dd-wrt on it... manually set my ip etc, couldn't connect to it
(could connect with same settings on my laptop *also over ethernet* so i know it works.)

i have reset winsock, nothing helped
i have done a clean uninstall of my networking drivers and reinstalled them (latest from nvidia)
i have tested safemode with networking, same issues.

There is a screenshot of how things look atm
thank you for your time

Doesn't look like you've got a problem between your box and your network. I'd check the router to see if your ISP is having any issues. Try resetting your modem.

my bad.

have you tried plugging straight into your modem and bypassing the router entirely? I know your laptop got passed through, but maybe there something funny going on between your router and the box in question.

I'd have to know more about your dd-wrt setup to make any assumptions on what is happening there.

lol, it's cool... i just get irritated at most of the OCN users who don't read, imply you are stupid, and tell you to do what you already did... all of which they do because they have no real idea how anything works and like to regurgitate any information they have seen, even if it's not correct. (this is a practice solidified by the modern schooling system.)

anywhooooooo
my actual network goes as such:
(attatchment)

edit:

basically, it is NOT a problem with my network. it is a problem with my computer
i've tried to connect to that dd-wrt router as just a device, no go (before i had it set to a bridge, just tried to get to the webgui... as referenced in OP)

hmmm... It's a bit strange cause the windows network gui-ma-bobber makes it looks like you're getting to the dd-wrt-2, but not past there, but dd-wrt-2 is just a bridge, so I would think you wouldn't be getting an IP from it.

I don't know enough about windows and windows driver to be of any help if the problem is between your box and dd-wrt-2. And since your laptop can connect and make the jump form dd-wrt-2 to dd-wrt-1 it's clear the problem isn't between those two.

I'm afraid I have become useless here... sorry sir.

Do you use an anti-virus or just the monowall? I'm not suggesting you have a virus but I've seen AVs like Norton and Mcffee cause this problem countless times. Also since you ran updates I would look through what was actually updated for more clues.

Also go into the services option in Computer Management and be sure DHCP, DNS and TCP/IP services are started.

Did windowsupdate run? There's a bug with one of the patches, if so.

Go to windows/system32/drivers, add full rights to the host file, then open it with notepad. Windowsupdate borks the host file. There should be a line in there with some extra semicolons pointing to nothing. Remove it, save, and it should be fixed.
