Computer trys to start, than stops, than starts, than stops...???

Hey,

So my sig rig is deciding to start up, the screen stays black. By start up I mean I push the power button, here it try to start, the fans go and whatnot, for about a few seconds, than the computer will shut off as if i pulled the plug on it. It will than rinse and repeat this a few times until it finally starts up and loads fine. When the computer is on there are never any problems. However, I put my computer to sleep once and had to flash the bios to get it to start and reprogram all my bios settings. What is it thats causing this issue? Maybe more voltage? Seems to be the answer to many things hah.

Thanks!

Sounds like power issues , or ram timings Look @ ram stick and then put thos timings into bios. make sure all volts are right, and make sure its in the same mode as before ide/achi I use achi mode for ssds better speeds, then cpu volts ect ect.

Should you really be running all that pro hardware on that PSU?

I was thinking it may be the PSU, but it seems like its good for me. There haven't been any BSOD's or anything after I've stablized my clocks. Except for this strange startup issue. I'll check the voltages and whatnot. Maybe a bump to vcore will help.

Is that a B2 or B3?
B3's should not be doing that at all on the latest beta bios.
If it's a B2, please RMA the board and exchange it for a B3. B2 boards had extremely flaky bios.

Initial B3 bios made the board handle not losing bios settings after being unplugged. Later beta bios stopped the boot loops/double posts after clearing CMOS, and should only boot loop in rare cases, like faulty hardware, bent pins, bricked primary bios, or recovery if PLL Overvoltage is enabled (bios may have difficulty saving/restoring settings if PLL overvoltage is enabled).

Also, copying the main bios to the backup bios, so both copies match, make the board a lot more stable and prevents the main bios from reverting after certain failures (hold down alt f12 the instant when you see <Cpiud: xxxxx i7-2600k 100x34, etc>

I have a B2 Board, how do I go about exchanging it? I bought it from central computers in San Francisco and am at college now. Do I go through Gigabyte or through central computers?
Go through central computers first. You may be able to get an advanced RMA so you can get a new board shipped to you without having to send the old board back, but that requires a credit or debit card, and you send the old board back in the same shipping box the new board comes in. They have to exchange the board, because it's Intel that's paying the bill for this.

Otherwise, if that retailer happens to be bad, you have to contact Gigabyte. I don't know if they do advanced RMA, however.

You may want to flash to the last B2 beta bios (over on the tweaktown forums in the gigabyte latest beta bios thread), and then flash the primary onto the backup (as I explained earlier).

Your board also overvolts with LLC1, which it isn't supposed to do, and LLC2 is completely broken (0.15+V overvolt then system just crashes)
B3 fixes that nicely.

Going from B2 to the newest B3 beta bios (f3c) is like night and day. It's like a completely new board.

you are using CPU PLL Overvoltage correct? there is no way you can resume from sleep with an OC with CPU PLl overovltage enabled. And yea get a B3. The LLC will only get better i promise, i can show you a vid if i want to make one of the vcore staying stable from 1.500-1.501 from idle to load so its possible i told them it needs to be incorporated and they agreed so it should be done soon.l

I would get a bigger PSU if you dont want to blow your 580/mobo/cpu up as soon as you load a game.

People really need to learn the difference between "then" and "than." The title really irritates me.

As to your problem, I'd check the PSU. You're most likely cutting it very close.
