critique my i7 970 @ 4.2ghz - Page 3

Nope, the haf 932 actually improves air flow vs open air. It acts as a wind tunnel of sorts, at least if you have good cable management, and nothing is obstructing your intake fans. It's probably because you reseated your heatsink

Probably not. It is probably just that you got a reseat and for some reason it's better, lol. Like I said earlier even though you used the correct method you may still need to try again. Happened to be with my EK waterblock that needed to be remounted three times.

Well this is going into an custom made cabinet since this will also be running 4 gtx 460s. Im planning on putting 3 101cfm fan right above the cards and d14. The tepms seem to be creeping up again.

Just finished 5th pass: 84/85/86/80/89/86

How better is a custom made wc kit then the xspc kits.

if you take into account better pumps, better blocks, extra rads, etc... they can provide a substantial improvement vs the xspc kits. I have the rx360 kit and it's the best that xspc provides.

You can get the kit i have plus an extra 360 rad or 140 rx rad and go dual loop with better blocks and you should be good.

Go pump/res > rx 360 rad > cpu block > second rad > gpu blocks >pump/res

with yate loons in push pull you would be set!

btw you will need a better pump than the one provided with the kit

With the standard xspc rx 360 kit and a 2nd RX360 on a single loop my 980x @ 4.2 runs temps around 48-52C while bigadv folding, pushing it up to 4.6Ghz it will run 58-62C because I need a bunch more vcore. I also have 2 gpus on that loop but I would expect your results to be similar.

I did lap the cpu and use indigo extreme tim though.

Oh and my fans don't run that faste either.

I'm looking in to a kit but i think the 460s would be fine on air. Right now they max out at 75C under OCCT OCed to 900/1800/2450.

Yeah that sounds fine, gpu's are expensive to put under water anyway. Personally I would get the rs360 or the rx240. Generally people don't seem to have got great ppd results with extreme overclocks anyway, so there's no point spending a lot on a fully custom loop for a few degrees better.

how is that indigo extreme stuff... the re-flowing procedure gets me un-nerved... don't think my sb can handle those temps

Right now i am using shin etsu x23... how much of a difference are we talking about?

And to the OP... I totally agree.. don't think those 460s need water. Air should be good, if it's just the cpu then just my kit with no extra (except for a biocide) will do just a-ok!
