ASUS A8AE-LE Not Detecting RAM

Thread Starter
My HTPC has a ASUS A8AE-LE harvested from a Compaq (SR1750NX IIRC) with the following:

A64 3000+
Geforce GT 220

I generally use 2x 256 MB Corsair XMS PC3200 and it works fine, dual channel and all. I recently revised our fileserver and took out a couple of sticks of RAM. Therefore, I have an available 1x 512 MB Corsair XMS PC3200 stick I'm trying to utilize.

The problem is that depending on the memory configuration, the board will not detect all sticks of RAM. I've put the 256 sticks in both slots 1 & 2 for dual channel, and they also get detected on slots 1 & 3 for single channel. If I add the 512 stick to the 2nd slot (256 - 512 - 256 - blank), only 512m is detected from the 256 sticks. If I place the 512 in slot 1 and the 256 sticks in 2 & 4, only the 512 stick is found and utilized.

However, even though the BIOS and Windows show this slot as empty, CPU-Z is able to read information off of the stick..

Any thoughts?
Not a huge deal since it seems to run okay with 2x256, but I'd rather utilize parts instead of having them sit in a box.

Thanks!
