Best way to connect my radiator fans?

Thread Starter
Hi guys,

Decided to take the plunge and install my first watercooling loop. I am waiting on my parts arriving and was having a search tonight to see what fans would best suit my rad. (EK Coolstream 120.2) I have eventually decided to go with 2 Arctic Cooling F12's but i'm now unsure of the best way to connect these up. My Asus P6T only seems to have 1 case fan header and 1 cpu header. Would I be best to connect these 2 fans direct to Molex or buy a splitter and run these of the one header?? And what header would that be - CPU or case fan header?. Ive noticed my board also has a PSU fan header - could I utilise this somehow?
Any help would be appreciated. (Maybe worth mentioning the fans I am going to buy only come with a 3 pin connector).
Thanks.

Aren't those the PWM fans? You can daisy chain them off one PWM header.

Anyone know the max amps for the connectors? I mean can you connect 6 1.2 amp fans or are you only limitted by the amps on that line from your PSU.

This might be a bit to late for a reply but here it is anyway:

The PWM headers on the mobo are typically rated at 1 amp.
So check the amp rating for your fans, you have to look for the STARTING amp rating (a.k.a. MAX rating).

Some manufacturers do not list the starting amp rating of their products, only the starting wattage, or MAX wattage. To convert watts to amps simply divide the watts by 12.

Add up the starting amp rating of your fans and they should not exceed the 1 amp of your PWM mobo header. I don't think you will be able to get more then 3 fans working on the same header.

I would not recommend loading more then 0.8 starting amp of fans on the same header.

Cheers!
