Firefox 4 memory usage

Thread Starter
I was playing cod4 today, and bam!! the game was minimized and windows showed the not enough memory and i should close down an app to prevent a crash.

I went to task manger and firefox 4 was using 1095mb of ram. I have 6gb and the game took around 500mb-ish

i had around 8 tabs open on ff at the time, but it was never a problem with ff 3.6

how much memory does ff4 run for u!?

thansk!

About 50 - 60 tabs open, 522 mb, while the plugin container is taking up 120 mb. So about 700 mb.

I think the new Firefox is like Windows 7. It adapts. If there's RAM to use, then it does use it.
Upon startup loading my home page only, I use 155MB RAM. but then again I have 8GB available, so it doesn't concern me. The use of RAM is probably for the best.

I think that he's telling the truth.

On average FF4 for me seemed to use 500MB with just 4 tabs open. I've seen it go as high as 700MB. Today the final FF4 build came out, now it seems to stay at around 350MB. I've only been using the final build for a couple hours though...

Definitely adaptive. More than 15 tabs open now on a comp with 2GB DDR2 SODIMM and a 1.7Ghz Celeron M (core architecture); 300MB usage. Compared to 200MB usage for a single tab or two on Hexagonal with 8GB of DDR3. Most likely on Hexagonal firefox has enabled some sort of tab superfetching to take advantage of the available RAM. While on this laptop it runs off 300MB but it is still fast.
