Both are expensive compared to T-Mobile.

I think T-Mobile is the best bang for your buck.

Especially since I am part of my Dad's family plan (4 of us).

Here in my area its:

AT&T
T-Mobile (R.I.P.?)
Verizon
Sprint
Metro PCS

The only cheaper option would be Metro PCS, and even then, their phones suck, and I get SUPER crappy coverage here...And I am in a nice middle class area and get 1 stinking bar...

Uh, no I can always unlock my myTouch 4G and use it on at&t's network. But seriously if or when T-Mobile does merge with at&t I'm switching over to Sprint.

Problem with just unlocking is the lack of 3G on AT&T's network due to some incompatibility; my Cliq for example cannot go 3G speeds when surfing the web, only crappy EDGE or WiFi.

AFTER INVESTIGATING:

I figured out that they will use it as a way to replace your SIM cards. They might also want you to pay for a new phone.

The Tmobile SIM card is incompatible with AT&T's 3G, HOWEVER, it CAN pick up regular AT&T cell signal.

When the switch comes, DON'T switch to AT&T sim unless you need 3G or they will charge you for data.

The whole point of this is to make T-mobile customers with big screen phones like unlocked iPhones to pay for data as well.

Good way out of my T-Mo contract...

Been eyeing virgin mobile since they got android phones with a $25/mo plan for unlimited data, text, and 300 minutes

Only bad thing is a $200 upfront for their best android

According to their coverage map (and since they're sprint) I'll get decent coverage here too!

If the merger comes in full swing, I really hope AT&T will still incorporate some of T-Mobile's phones to its inventory. I've been eying the HTC G2 and Galaxy S2 for quite some time now.
