Overclocking Entry Level PC

Thread Starter
Hey, I was interested in boosting the performance of my PC with some overclocking and I read around that you can push an Intel i3 550 (3.2 ghz dual core) to 4.0-4.2 on stock and 4.2-4.6 with a 212 heat sink and cooler. Any basics towards pushing my CPU?

Also, I seem to be having some stability issues overclocking my GPU with MSI Afterburner. On multiple sites, I've seen people push the 450 GTS from PNY to about 918-945 mhz core clock and 1836 Mhz processor clock, but I can't even break past 890 mhz on the core clock and 1826 on the memory without furmark crashing on me. Any ideas?

My set up:
CPU: Intel i3 550 (3.2 ghz dual core)
Motherboard: Asus p7p55d-e lx
RAM: 2x2GB OCZ RAM 1333 mhz
GPU: PNY 450 GTS
PSU: OCZ ModXStream Pro 600 Watt

Thanks!

You need to overvolt that graphics card in order to hit higher clocks. Not every chip is the same, you need to understand that.

I wouldn't go above 3.7ghz on the stock cooler with the i3, but if the temps don't go over 80C then go right ahead with it.
