Tweak to speed up BitComet downloads.

Thread Starter
Hi, this guide will show you how to make your BitComet client connect to trackers properly and other seeders faster so you'll download at your max bandwidth.

First of all, you'll want to make sure that you have the latest version. BitComet updates regularly and each update helps a bit with speed and stability and in other areas so you'll always want to have the latest version.

You can download the latest version from here which is updated automaticly when a new version comes out. Now that you have the latest version, its time to do some tweaking .

Press Ctrl-P and the preferences should come up.

In the Connection tab, you'll usually want unlimited download unless you want to save some of your bandwidth for gaming or surfing. For the upload, it mostly depends on how fast your internet is, if you have alot of KB/s upload speed, you'll want to set it slightly higher since most trackers will let you download more if you upload what you download. Having the upload under 10 is not recommended, trackers will see that your not uploading much and you won't be able to download as fast as you should.

Then go to Advanced>Connection and here is where the most important change is.

In the Maximum connections per task row, the default is auto, you'll want to change that to20-600.

Reason I say 20-600 is because depending on your internet, the lower you set it, the slower it will download but your internet won't time out (crash) easily. The higher you set the number, the faster you'll download but your internet might time out easily after a couple hours and you'll have to wait maybe 2 minutes or reset your router/modem and it will go back up... eventually.

For 768Kbp/s I suggest 20-100
For 1.5Mbp/s I suggest 100-250
For 3.0Mbp/s I suggest 250-500
3.0Mbp/s+ I suggest a full 600 or higher.

And for the final change, in the Connections to keep per task row which should be on auto as well, should be set to around 50-Max connections per task.

This change doesn't exactly time out your internet if its set too high, but it will use up more RAM if set high. For low RAM PCs you should set to maybe 50-100 and for PCs with 1GB RAM or more then you should set it to the same as your Maximum connections per task setting so when you connect BitComet, it will have the IPs all set up and waiting.

Well this should be it, after doing this you should see an improvement in your downloading speed... hopefully.

Good luck!

You skipped a lot...but a very good start for those you don't attempt to tweak at all...good stuff...I'll see if it works

sry but your a little off. utorent is the fastest of the bit torrent clients but its a personal prefrence realy and theres a much better way to do it. it involves editing the tcp/ip system file and theres a handy utility to do it so you dont screw it up.

Well BitComet works fine for me, I only have a 200kbp/s downstream bandwidth and BitComet gets me up there in about 5-10 minutes so it doesn't really matter if theres a faster client because my internet is so slow . BitComet happens to be very easy to use and i think its the best one out there heh

BitComet is a leecher's client. Use utorrent or Azureus. The trackers will love you for it.
