[Techpowerup] Single-Slot, Slot-Powered Radeon HD 6850 Surfaces in Asia

The AF6850-1024D5S1 from AFOX features a red PCB, a black single slot cooler that covers all of the board's obverse side, and looks to feature a dense heatsink to which air is circulated by a blower. The card uses reference clock speeds of 775 MHz core, 1000 MHz (4.00 GHz GDDR5 effective) memory. The HD 6850 is rated by AMD to have 127W typical max power draw. It would be interesting to see how the card is managing to run the GPU with the slot's 75W. What's more, the card doesn't compromise in the display connectors department, packing one each of DVI, full-size HDMI 1.4a, full-size DisplayPort 1.2, and mini-DisplayPort 1.2. In Japan, the card is priced at 19,780 Yen, which converts to US $245.

I thought PCIe 2.0 allowed 150W through the slot. Yes?

I believe he means PCIe 1.0, as I remember they only put out 75 Watts. Therefore, this would not be backwards compatible with older motherboards.

I'm guessing the OC ability would be rather limited though without the PCIE connector.
I guess if this can only pull 150W, it might be a bit limited in the OCing department? Also, what about temperatures? Don't get me wrong, it looks like an awesome card, but I don't think it's worth paying a premium over a regular 6850 unless you absolutely *need* the space.

Also, I can't find a site showing that 2.0 allows 150W through. Can anybody else show "proof" that it's not normally limited to 75W?

The people this would interest is those that don't have much room but want a decent card, or crossfiring. Crossfire takes up a insane amount of space. And if it's a dual slot like my 5870, most can't crossfire and have a addon pci card. I have a dual slot 5870, sound card, tv tuner card. I was thinking about crossfiring until I realized I wouldn't have enough room since they are dual slot cards. So this fits a tight space saving market that is good for people that want the most bang out of their buck.

Now that's one impressive one-slot cooler design.

Price doesn't help though.
