How is my system looking I'm planning on building? - Page 3

I'm just going to go for a nice and large, bright monitor (60Hz) and a 6870.
I was just looking at the specs for the 2500k on the intel website and it says: Memory Types: DDR3 1066/1333
Does that mean I can only run the RAM at 1333MHz max? That doesn't sound right but it is on the official specs page. Or does it mean something different?

no, the ram can run at higher speeds determined by your motherboard. you are still able to overclock your memory.

sweet. Back to monitors lol. I honestly cannot decide what to do with the monitor. I think I'll just go by price and hope for the best. My theory is the more expensive the better it must be. All I want is...oh god I don't even know anymore. I guess I'll go with the dell that you recommended. Is the screen glossy by any chance?

i honestly don't think you'll be disappointed with the dell, and the screen isn't glossy.

sometimes that theory can be true.. best thing to do is ALWAYS do your research and make sure you're buying to suit your needs.

good luck with it all, i think you'll be very happy with the overall result. make sure to post pics once it's all done.

I'm sure I'll be happy with whatever I get.
1 last question, lets say I get a 60GB SSD and 1TB HDD. I was going to put the OS, Chrome, Photoshop, security, drivers, office etc on the SSD and then games, videos, photos etc on the HDD.
I just read (and find it hard to believe) that I can't actually do that. Apparently I would need a MINIMUM of 120GB for the OS and 250 would be better because when I load programs it uses a lot of memory storage and the computer would crash.
I calculated it all and found that all the stuff I would put on 60GB SSD totals 40GBs (being generous). I thought when you load a program it goes into the RAM, and doesn't really affect the hard drive (SSD). The only time I can think of when the storage may vary is online browsing but even then it wouldn't be much.

So can I have a 60GB SSD for OS, Photoshop, office and browsers and a hard drive for videos, photos etc or would that not work? I don't see why not but I just want to make sure.

Oh and I'm either going to go for x2 60GB SSD (in RAID 0 for OS etc) and x2 500GB HDDs (in RAID 0) for the rest
or
Single 60GB SSD and x2 1TB HDDs.

a 60GB ssd would be more than fine for OS and a couple of programs.. windows 7 installs at about ~8-10GB, so the rest you'd have for whatever other programs. you'll get a fluctuating amount of temp. files, but nothing to put you over the 60GB, let alone "crash" the computer.

where did you read all that? i'd like to have a look

entirely up to you which route you go, 2 ssd's in raid0 will be very fast and 2 1TB hdd's will give you a lot of space for porn and such.
have a look at the corsair force series, ocz vertex, crucial to name a few.

it was a question I asked on y!answers about making the SSD and 2 HDDs apear as 1 drive in My Computer (but still being able to choose where I install programs, copy files etc). Here's the question and answer I gothttp://au.answers.yahoo.com/question...8021855AAeJvKV

I found it very hard to believe. I've also read (and this is more believable) that some people who had 2 SSDs in RAID and 2 HDDs in RAID had stuttering with the OS (from the SSD) and it's because the onboard RAID controller on the MB isn't fast enough or/and that the page file needed to be on a separate drive.
So I've decided to go with 1 SSD and 2 HDDs (so the RAID controller isn't over worked and save some money) and maybe put the paging file on the HDDs (but I have an SSD now in my laptop with a small paging file on the SSD with no problems so I might just leave that).
So looks like I'll have 2TB worth of storage for porn lol

If their SSDs are stuttering, it is either because they have filled it up and/or the drive needs to be Trimmed. However, Trim currently does not work on RAIDed drives. Some drives are good about getting by without Trim but others are not so good.

You'd be better off with just a single 2TB "green" drive if all you're doing is storing media.

I read that OCZ offers TRIM in RAID that's why I was going or them (even if I get 1 for now and upgrade later on). And I'm going to be putting games on it and photos that I will be editing and so on that's why i wanted to do RAID.
Lol don't be ridiculous I'm not really going to have 2TB of porn haha

So to load games would I be better of with RAID? Like battlefield for example
