How to make a decent AMD gamign rig without breaking your wallet

This is for all the people strugling to choose between cheap parts and unsure which ones are good and reliable and bring the best bang for the buck .

1st of all lets choose a Case
Sub 40$ (shipped) range
Thermaltake V3 40$ after promo code , 30$ after rebate shipped
HEC Blitz 40$ shipped
Rosewill DESTROYER 40$ after promo code shipped
Sub 60$ (shipped) range
COOLER MASTER Elite 430 50$ shipped
Diablotek EVO 50$ shipped
Rosewill CHALLENGER 55$ shipped
CM HAF 912 60$ shipped

Now for the PSU
to have a stable pc and being able to throw some overclocks and a decent GPU i wouldnt recommend going lower then 500w , here are some options for single card solutions :
sub 60$ (shipped) range
Corsair CX500w 55$ shipped , 40$ after rebate
Antec EA-500D 54$ after promo code shipped
here are some options for dual card solutions :
Antec EA-650 65$ after promo code , shipped
Rosewill RG700-S12 70$ shipped
XFX 650X-CAG9 80$ after promo code shipped , 50$ after rebate (if u dont mind the rebate this is one the best 650w psu out there for the price)

Now to motherboards , for a budget build we'll be looking at boards under 100$
For single card setups :
BIOSTAR TA890GXE 100$ shipped
ASUS M4A87TD EVO 100$ shipped
GIGABYTE GA-870A-UD3 95$ shipped
MSI 870A-G55 98$ shipped , 88$ after rebate

For dual card setups :
BIOSTAR TA870U3+ 97$ shipped
ASRock 870 EXTREME3 90$ shipped
MSI NF750-G55 87$ shipped , 67$ after rebate

Now lets get to RAM :
sub 50$ (4GB) range
Kingston HyperX Blu 1600Mhz 45$ after promo code , 30$ after rebate
Team Xtreem 1600Mhz 45$
G.SKILL 1600Mhz 48$
Corsair XMS 1600Mhz 50$ , 30$ after rebate

now for HDDs
sub 45$ (500GB) range
Recertified WD Blue 500GB 36$ shipped
WD Blue 500GB 42$ shipped
sub 65$ (1TB) range
Samsung F3 1TB 65$ shipped
WD Blue 1TB 60$ after promo code shipped
HITACHI 1TB 55$ shipped

CPUs :
Phenom II X4 820 95w 100$ shipped (amazing option if ur going to buy an aftermarket cooler)
Phenom II X4 955 C3 130$ after promo code shipped
Phenom II X6 1055T 170$
all 3 CPUs are for different needs , the 820 is for overclockers who buy an aftermarket cooler no cheaper then 30$ which turns out same price (130$) as a 955 but with an aftermarket cooler u get to overclock the 820 much highter then u can 955 on his stock cooler , 955 is ideal for gamers who dont wanna bother much with overclocking , 1055T is ideal for photoshopers and other multithreaded app users .

CPU Cooling:
sub 30$ (shipped) range
XIGMATEK HDT-S1284F 30$ shipped
XIGMATEK Gaia SD1283 30$ shipped
ZALMAN CNPS5X SZ 30$ shipped , 20$ after rebate

Now lets get to GPUs , heres where it get tricky
to game on max setting on 1600x1080 resolution and lower u will require these :
HIS HD 5770(Juniper XT) 130$ shipped , 100$ after rebate
EVGA GTX 550Ti 150$ shipped , 140$ after rebate (+3dmark and mafia 2)
MSI N460GTX Twin Frozr II 150$ shipped , 130$ after rebate (about same performance with 550Ti its just 550 is newer and has 1Gb memory)

the next step up in resolution would be these :
PowerColor AX6850 167$ after promo code shipped , 157$ after rebate
Galaxy GTX 560Ti 240$ shipped , 210$ after rebate
(all the cards above can be put in Crossfire/SLI on a 650w PSU no problem)
and top end options (for budget build lol)
MSI HD 6950 260$ after promo code shipped , 235$ after rebate (can be unlocked to 6970)
MSI GTX 570 310$ after promo code shipped , 300$ after rebate
(850w PSU and highter required to run CF/SLi with those 2 cards)

k , gonna add some nice combo deals :
955BE+GIGABYTE GA-870A-UD3
955BE+BIOSTAR TA870U3+
955BE+ASUS M4A87TD EVO
955BE+G.Skill 1600Mhz Ram+Seagate 1TB+GA-880GMA-UD2H 305$ which isnt all that bad
Phenom II X6 1055T+MSI HD 6950 412$ after 2x 10$ promo codes 387$ after rebate
1055T+ASUS M4A87TD EVO
1055T+GIGABYTE GA-870A-UD3
Corsair CX500 +Samsung F3 500GB 92$ / 77$ AR
Corsair CX500+Corsair 1600Mhz Ram 90$ \\ 55$ AR
Rosewill DESTROYER+Rosewill RG530
Rosewill DESTROYER+Rosewill RG630

There you go guys , i think now you will have a bit easier time deciding what to get , i know prices wont stay the same but you will have a rough idea what to get for ur build , there is absolutely no need to blow gazillion bucks on an AMD build when the performance is right there for a good price hope i helped ^^

PS:crap i made a typo in the thread title *facepalm*

If you choose AMD, you weren't even breaking the bank in the first place .

When the i7 980x came out along with the amd 1090T - some guy made one extreme intel/nvidia and one extreme amd/ati build

the 'extreme' amd build only cost as much as an average watercooled X58 build

both were watercooled

Good post.

Couple additions/recommendations:
Rosewill Green 630 psu for $63 shipped
AMD Phenom II X4 840 3.2GHz

Put in the promo code for the Kingston ram - it doesn't show on the link.
Also, you should put the Biostar TA870 with the single card setups due to the 16x/4x PCIe setup. The Asrock is better at 8x/8x.

That rosewill PSU has realy bad reviews , i think u noticed that , about Phenom 840 i guess i didnt put it since its the same as athlon and about Biostar TA870U+ it is x16x4 but it does support crossfire unlike GIGABYTE GA-870A-UD3 which also has x16x4 but doesnt support it

Nice job following in me and badwrench's footsteps unless unlike the ones we've made sometime ago, this is a permanent thread... remember, deals change all the time
The Rosewill Green 630W PSU is on tator tot's recommended list.... I've selected it a couple times before for that reason
Perhaps you should post a few nice combo deals if you can find it?

Also isn't crossfire mostly a software thing and will run no matter what the motherboard supports?

Review by Tomshardware = recommended.

I am with you on the 840, but since packaged as a phenom, it has the better stock cooler.
I knew about the Biostar, but I just don't like the idea of adding a second card and taking a big hit in performance.
It's so little!
