BIOS update won't recognize previous RAID 0 data? - Can't find OS

I have an Asus P8P67 Deluxe mobo and just recently was shipped its newer replacement, but before I swap over to the new board I wanted to know if I'll run into this problem again.

Currently my 'old' board is running BIOS 0604 but when I flash it to anything else it won't recognize my RAID 0 array after reboot. The RAID sees both drives, but it just goes to a screen saying it can't find the operating system.

I have made sure to go back in and enable RAID in the new BIOS...but it still doesn't see the array. The only way to get the PC to reboot is to flash the old BIOS and everything works just fine.

Reason I'm asking now is because I'm hoping this is just a bug with the older BIOS version and if I do a clean install on a newer version on my new board maybe later down the road if I need to flash again I won't run into this issue. Currently it appears that the only way to update the BIOS is to do a complete re-install of Windows...not exactly an optimal solution!

This is the first time I've had a RAID array so maybe this is a typical problem when flashing the BIOS?

Anybody else run into this problem? Again I'm hoping this is just a bug with the older BIOS

This is a problem you're likely to encounter in the first couple of BIOS revisions, even more so on Intel's SB boards. Your problem came from the fact the RAID part of the BIOS has been updated and possibly heavily modified (may have something to so with SB's SATA fiasco?). Once the BIOS is mature imho there's no reason for the RAID BIOS to get updated; usually it's just the part of the BIOS that recognizes new CPUs, new RAM modules, etc that gets updated.
Now I can't say that now your BIOS is mature enough so that you won't have this issue. What you could do before updating the BIOS is to image your drives. You could also pop a question to your mobo's tech support to ask of RAID BIOS modifications or read thru the release notes.

Thank, that makes sense because I installed with one of the earliest BIOS revisions.

I do have the drive imaged to a backup but wanted to change the partitions anyway so ill be doing a clean install.

I just hope future revisions will give me this problem again if I do need to update.
