Selecting a new GPU

Thread Starter
Ok i'm in the market for a new GPU since a GTX260 is getting quite old now and is begging to show poor framerates in newer games. i have about $600 AUD to spend but ive been out of the loop for a little bit now concerning GPUs.

So far i see my choices as this:

GTX480
GTX570
GTX580

I really only want to buy Nvidia since i've had quite a few bad ATi cards. The thing is i'm quite unsure on how these cards compare to the 480 which costs $450 compared to the 570 for $400 and the 580 for $580. I mostly play WoW (don't laugh) and a bit of CoD black ops and a couple of other racers and what not so in this situation which card would provide a better upgrade for the money if i want to be able to play at 60fps or so.

I've also thought about GTX460/470 SLi if that would even be competitive.

If your still not decided, then I'd go for the 570, you don't need a 580 to play WoW, or 480 which is not very refined compared to later offerings.

I haven't really decided but currently thats what im looking at, i thought that before i click the "buy" button i would make sure that there are no better or equivalent alternatives that cost less.

I'm not certain if you play WoW or not, but it seems as if wow has become similar to GTA IV where alot of the GFX effects are sucking amazing amounts of resources, and in a 25m raid with the graphics set to minimum and vsync on @ 1920x1080 its causing my framerates to drop below 20fps and even below 10 at times, even when in 10m raids its very choppy. I'm just thinking that since i will not be replacing the GPU for 12 months or more is a 580 not the best option considering things?

How would that compare in performance though? and the other thing that just popped into my head is the compatibillity of Sli with wow. Does anyone know if wow would even see and use the 2nd card?

Thanks for that, i doubt that Sli/CF functionality would have been removed if it had existed in the past. Well at least i know Sli is an option, as for the Power comsumption of a couple 570s vs a 580, how does that look?
