[ChipHell ]Exposure of the first performance of AMD bulldozer cpus - Page 10

I'll eat my hat sammich if it launches below $300.
If this is true it kind of sucks, I hoped my next AMD build would be less than $500 with a new mobo, chip and RAM... These scores have AMD stomping all over Intel, it will be like the Athlon 64 days again with bajillion dollar AMD processors.

These will be on 32nm too so they would clock like the recent Sandy Bridges too. The only advantage intel would have going into ivy bridge would be better timings and faster AVX throughput, but nothing really uses AVX anyway.

(In rendering application, performance tends to scale linearly.)

Provided these benchmarks are legit, 8-core Zambezi looks like it'll match a 6-core Sandy Bridge.
Keep in mind this is at 1.8Ghz, while the 2600k is at 3Ghz if they're using the same chip as Phoronix had.

For gods sake...

Look at my sig, Ivy will only have increased speed from more cores and AMD can destroy Intel in that with the Bulldozer architecture, we'll be lucky to get much higher overclocking potential.

Which, according to the Phoronix benchmarks, will probably match it?

How so? Then what is HT? Half a core? Because HT can add a full cores worth of performance in some applications yet no-one seems to mention that when an AMD6 core beats an Intel 4 core, even by a tiny amount that the Intel has 4 extra virtual cores...

Sandy-EX will be up to 8 cores, if AMD launches a 10 or 12 core version of BD for consumers that's Sandy-EX taken care of and Ivy Bridge? It's not like AMD is going to go to 22nm and add more cores too...

BD will be a bad chip for most enthusiasts, they've gotten so hyped that if AMD manages to deliver fully then this would have to be better than G80 was.

I'm kind of hoping eVGA moves to AMD as well, imagine the awesomeness of a Socket G34 SR-2, 32 cores at some massive clock speed.

Now you are making the wrong comparison, these are to compete with the SB and then the IB is just a die shrink.

no. his analogy was quite fitting. in case you were unable to grasp what he was saying, in layman's terms (although he made it very easy...):

it doesn't matter about core vs core. it's the FINAL value at the price point that counts. AMD can stuff 16 cores and if it destroys SB at $300 then that's that. arguments like "it's not a fair comparison they have more cores..." or "i'm gonna laugh if it takes 8 cores to beat..." is just dumb. again, ultimately what counts is performance per price, it doesn't matter how that is done.

in the same light, he's saying there's no point saying "even though your v8 killed my 4 banger i still think my 4 banger is better because it's more efficient." at the end of the day, you lost period. again, what matters is overall final performance given a certain price. very basic concept.

Yeap... same thing with SB and Intel Extreme processors ... look at 2600K vs 980x and 990x ...

overall, 2600k is a much safer, logic and price friendly choice since it can match and some times, surpass, 980x/990x performance ...

So a clear winner ...

True, but they rushed SB,and look what happened there.

What happened where? The Sandybridge chip itself never had a problem.

The whole platforms a joke, lol, you can only use different features on different mobo's.Seems pointless, why would i buy a CPU with onboard GPU to not be able to use it,lol, and to make it even funnier the highest ranking onboard GPU is on the overclockable K versions..the GPU cant be used on the overclocking mobo/p67.Also QuickSync, the secret weapon of SB,lol,so secret that it cant be used on current mobo's.If i'd brought this crap i'd be heading to Intel head office and make it a new internal organ for whoevers in charge.
