Hello, I am actually a returning overclock.net member.. The last time I logged in was 7/10/08

Now I know quite a bit more about computers than I did back then, and I am no longer constrained by a tight budget. In fact I am actually up for a new computer, again I have no budget but would like to keep it under $2000.

Once again, I am a returning noob overclocker who still rolls on stock speeds.

So, what specs you have in mind? I mean, its better to know your preferences and start working on it from there.

I actually have a few loose preferences right now.

I've done some research and I would like to have a build that revolves around either an Intel I7 or AMD Phenom 2 x6 processor, doesn't matter which model, as well as the Nvidia GTX 580.

I checked out power supplies and spent literally 3 hours comparing various PSU's on different websites and one that stuck out to me was the NZXT Gold Pro 850w.

Other than that, I'm open to suggestions.

You might want to consider the corsair professional series gold ax850

I have the 750 and it is a brilliant little unit - the efficiency of it is one of the highest rated if not the highest.
Personally I would go with the corsair over nzxt when it comes to psu's.... Maybe it's personal preference, but I feel safer/more comfortable with corsair in comparison to nzxt

Yea, I checked out the Corsair PSU's and I was impressed by them, but the NZXT gave less noise and ripple, although the difference WAS almost insignificant enough to be moot, but I'm just so paranoid over PSU's after a friend of mine burned out his poor rig from a cheapo Coolmax PSU.

The XION PSU in my aging rig certainly is no Corsair, but I've had absolutely no problems with it.

I'll definitely check out that PSU though.

2000 is a nice budget. I'd say 2600k + 580 SLi or 590

590? I need to do my homework on the super high end cards now that I have some money to burn.

There is one problem, I tried to build a computer a while back for another friend of mine (not the one with the crappy PSU) and didn't work out too well, so I'm kind of looking for another party to assemble it or at least a reputable reseller (I think that might be taboo here)

It is upto you if you want to wait for amd bulldozer series cpus or not. If you want to buy the setup right now, 1090T would be a great idea. Pair it up with a good 890FX mobo and you are set. The Asus Striker 4 Formula would certainly fit your budget. As for memory, get anything above or equal to 1600MHz (cas 6/7) from gskill or corsair or Mushkin.
As for psu, if you think that you might be interested in Crossfire in the future, the corsair AX850 would be a very good choice. If a single gpu is all you want, then getting a 650watt psu would be wiser (for lower power draw and efficiency). For now (and also for 2/3 years to come) the GTX580 (or GTX590) would be more than enough. Support this whole thing with a decent SSD( sadly I have no knowledge about them) and you are golden.

I did read on one website that the Intel Sandybridge motherboards will be, if not already, be re-released back into market, what about those?

While I love AMD, the sweet processors from Intel have drawn a bit more than a glance from me.

My gaming needs will most likely be anything that will give NO stutter or as little as possible as well as 60+ FPS in LOTRO and Rift (maybe), as well as good performance (30+ FPS) on Dragon age 2 DX11, Crysis 2, Deus Ex, AC Brotherhood, and a few others

A 2600k and a 580 would shred frame rates... Especially if you did sli on those.

As for the SB mobos, they're already out... You should be able to find some new ones pretty easily.
