Also you have to think about having the picture across 3 monitors and at such resolution, if you have no AA, you will see nasty jaggies. What's the point of spending so much money to deal crappy frames and jaggies.

BTW that's not even 3D sorround performance lol
you do know that there's different settings used for the best experience. the 6990 looks better in warhead. the 580 sli looks better civ 5. also it's rediculous to compare the 6990 to 580 sli as it's not the same. you are talking about two x16 lanes vs one x16 lane. not to mention other factors that make dual gpu cards not equal to dual cards.

still with that said, at that res it is very playable at mid 30s fps.

i think you mean 2560x1440 and yes i completely agree. I would have liked to see the res for sure.

Yeah i do, 2560x1600 are the expensive 16:10 ones and 2560x1440 are the cheaper 16:9 type. Either way i was wrong, lol.

My point is that to get the best experience with Nvidia 3D Sorround or Eyefinity and use some agressive settings in games you will need 2 cards not just 1. Now as for a single GTX 590 or a single 6990 I think they are perfect for 2560x1600 for most games anyways. But I wouldn't expect them to do amazing on anything higher than that unless you want to lose eye candy. I mean a 6990 or a GTX 590 apparantely can't even pull 60 fps in Warhead without AA at 1080p

what's with this new fad of people from all around saying that the 590 and the 6990 should only be considered if you're playing @ 1600p or with a multi monitor setup?

What do you think is suitable for 1200/1080p then? a gtx 580? a radeon 6970? Come next year and the same guys will be saying that a gtx 680 and a radeon 7970 are the suitable ones for full HD, even though they should be on par with the current dual GPU configs.

The fact is that even these monster cards do not get the minimum fps of 60 in every game.

Love how many people are knocking the GTX 590 STILL. Even after there are benchmarks. And this is at STOCK clocks! Take it to 840 and watch the 6990 get blown away.

I still don't believe we are at the point where 3D surround or triple 1600p setups are viable without cutting back on eye candy. CallsignVega's setup seems to be doing an excellent job and I'm keeping an eye out for his benches once he gets those 580's underwater. But I'd still rather wait until Kepler to try maxing out triple screens.
