maybe I'll just wait for the 6970's price to drop.. 6950 flash seems like too much crap to go through and may risk messing up the card. The reason I don't want to go with a single 580 is that I could go with a better crossfire setup for a little bit more cash. I would go with the 570 sli but my budget cant really afford it now and plus 4 gigs of vram would be good for a weird monitor res like mine, being 2048x1152

I agree its a good setup!! And you never seem to get the same boost with three cards like you do with two! In fact alot of three way setups i have seen show less than impressive results ( vs dual card setups)
Crossfire 69xx cards continue to scale 85%+ in tri card setups. Then again the issue of having enough CPU comes into play, you need a big honking chip to power it all. It's kinda like dating a super model, of course other guys are checking your woman out and it can be a problem. But don't forget you're dating a super model to begin with, there are worse problems you could have had.

Clock for clock, the extra shaders on the 6970 only has a ~1-3% advantage over the 6950. People put way too much stock in unlocking the 6950. It's way overrated. Clock speed is where it's at. Overclock the 6950's and match or go beyond 6970 performance. See the thread in my sig for more info.
