What would be the best setup for me if my budget was in the $500-600 range? But no more than $600.

IMO the best bang for your buck around $500 ,would be a single gtx 580 , or SLI gtx 560,s. The 560,s will slightly out perfom the 580. With the 580 you have a chance to upgrade to SLI in the future.

either setup would be sweet!!

OOPs wasnt trying to quote you! LMAO sorry!

That was my original plan but first off, some people say they seriously mess up their card trying to unlock them. And second, the reference cards are supposedly dying out as ati made a rev 2 6950.
Just remember a single gtx 580, is still one of the most powerful single cards out today! Behind th 6990, and the upcoming 590. Both well over your budget!!

Dont see how you could go wrong with a single GTX 580, then when the price drops throw a second 580 in! That setup will be respectable for a while.

I like the thought, but I have no clue when I'll have the money for a second one.. Free enterprise sucks, I remember paying $500-600 for my 4870x2..But now its worth maybe $200 at best. 2 years from now the 580 is going to be the same.

Honestly as a current ATi owner, the way the drivers are just getting worse and worse, my opinion is to go for the nVidia alternative.

Its not like SLI makes you future proof. We will always upgrade GPU's as long as we are gaming. I have yet to run out of GPU power on my single 560, so really unless your running dual monitors or resolution above 1920x1080, its a waste to spend so much on GPU's. $500 of GPU's for a single monitor is just not necessary.

Edit: Actually, you'll probably become obsolete (new tech comes out, DX12 or something) before a single $300 and up GPU runs out of power to play games.

Edit 2: Just noticed the OP's resolution. He does need a big card, or 2 cards.

Really its only the gpu that will be a constant upgrade for me. I have no need for a 6 core processor, 12 gigs of ram, a 3 way sli/crossfire 6 gbit ysb 3.0 mobo... But graphics cards are a must.
I will upgrade but my 250,s will go into my family pc ( kiddy games-movies-you tube) I plan on keeping my current rig till its old and grey!!
