IDE vs AHCI?

I ran CrystalDiskMark to check differences, Here a bench when IDE mode used:


AHCI:


So IDE beats AHCI at everything except 4K Read and Sequential Write, isnt AHCI supposed to be way better?

pretty much, AHCI supports TRIM which is only applicable in SSD's

Yeah basically. Unless you do hotswapping with you mechanical hard drives, there is no reason to use AHCI.

If you have two different sata controllers on your motherboard you should be able to do this.

This is what I do. My main drives are all IDE, and then I have an E-sata PCI-e card with a sata port running in AHCI that I use for hot-swapping.

my ssd is sata 3 so i hooked it up to the sata 3 grid along with 2 hd, 2 opticals and the front sata port. i do have 2 sata 6 ports run with a different chipset. i will have to look into this.
