I say your parent let you spend the 700 bucks on a nice 1155 system. If you need help with a build post a thread in the Intel Section and someone will help you

Dell pc: most likely a 300-350w psu.

If they're willing to spend a hair more, I'm sure you can build a decent system that you can eventually snag a higher end GPU for. Personally, I wouldn't upgrade that Dell.

+1
I agree for what you will spend on the latest and greatest graphics card. You could build a really good complete gaming rig, with upgradability.

ALL is not lost , you could still use a few items from your dell to save cash. hard drive, disk drives, card reader ( stuff like that )
Or leave it alone and start from scratch.

I warn you building computers is ADDICTIVE!!!! ( YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!)

So first of all, I'm sorry it's NOT a Dell, lol, it's an HP

And the model is Pavilion Elite e9107c PC

But now I'm thinking about having my parents scrap all other gifts and just fund me making a beast computer XD I've always wanted one, just never had time with education n' stuff, but now that I'm self employed, I have loads of free time!

But I'll let you know once I know exactly how much my parents will be willing to spend.

300W PSU

The good news is everything is ATX standard, and I upgraded a similar HP Elite model for a friend and was able to fit a 9800gx2 in it (just barely). You should talk with your parents and see what kind of budget they have in mind. You could pick up a decent brand 550w psu + something like a GTX460 1gb for something like $250. Just keep in mind some of the better GPU's are too long for that case.

So I've been looking into building a new comp all together.

The wife is eligible to make a recovery set of her OOOOLD computer and put the files into this one, while I recover this one and put it into the new one, so I seem to be set =P

BUT I have a few questions regarding PC building(bare over with me here, I might ask some "DUH!! OBVIOUSLY!?" questions, but hay, I've never even CONSIDERED this before, I've always just bought n' went =P
Also, I have ALOT of questions, some might take some time to respond to, so no need to respond if you don't wanna put some thought into it =)

So..

1) If you build your own PC through say Dell, does it arrive in pieces for you to put together?
2) I assume it arrives by shipping?
3) What website is best n' cheapest to build a PC on? What do you use?
4) Does it require alot of knowledge to build a PC?
5) If you had a budget of saaaay $1200? what would YOU get for a gaming PC?
6) Do you believe $1200 to be enough to build a comp that'll last me for awhile?
7) Is upgrading difficult? And how do I go about it?
8) Can you explain overclocking in greater detail?
8a) Does it take alot of practice?
8b) Can you completely trash your card if you do it wrong?

9) Can you explain Folding in greater detail?
9a) Does it take alot of practice?
9b) Can you completely trash your card if you do it wrong?

Thank you so much for all of your help, guys! It's truely appreciated! I promisse I'll become less of a noob once I get all of this figured out! =P

1) building a pc through dell is building it through is dell.com/alienware
2)yes
3)-.-
4)no
5-6)1200$ is a great budget to start off of, i built my system off of about 800$ w/o peripherals, and if you love computers, it would last about anywhere from 2-4 years, well thats what "us enthusiasts" say.
7)upgrading is easy, its like putting together puzzle pieces with a map
8)by overclocking, you get more from what you originally payed for; with they are TONS of guides on this site and you would learn with a little research.
8a) by overclocking itself, it requires patience, so yes practice is a must.
9)folding is an enthusiast's game/sport to rack up numbers out of hardware, but theres guides all over this site too.
9b)maybe if you do something completely wrong......... like installing it backwards
