Edit: fixed - Zacate E350 -choppy vid playback and slow net performance (12 Mb/s)

fixed, see thread below.
Help, i just built a new Zacate media server and its basically too slow to do the job.

MSI E350IA-E45 AMD Zacate E350
8gb ddr3 ram
1tb WD green drive
1080p monitor

It looks great and surfs the web fine, but when you try to watch a high res video like 1080p mkv or even 720p h.264 it simply can't keep up. I am using vlc, have also tried media player classic home cinema but thats even choppier. also tried AMD 11.4a preview drivers with no improvement.

It plays youtube HD content OK but still choppy when i try for a 720p or 1080p there. I have installed the latest flash and dx11.

Even more frustraing is the network speed. On my home gigabit network that usually will achieve 80-100MB/s transfers from machien to machine, this little guy only hits 11.5 MB/s. I have installed the network and all other drivers from MSI still no improvement.

This means its too slow to play a 1080p file from another local network computer. maybe 720p is OK.. but the processor usage jumps to 80-90% when combining the network traffic with the high res decoding.

Help needed, thanks!

On MPC HomeCinema, you need to make sure the H.264 and VC-1 DXVA filters are enabled and disable the FFmpeg ones so it doesn't try to use those (View » Options » Internal Filters » Transform Filters).

By the way, are you sure it's connected in gigabit mode? Perhaps you need to fiddle around with the adapter settings.

Bingo.. rui-no-onna that advice about disabling h.264 and vc-1 with ffmpeg worked perfectly! thanks very much.

now.. if i could only speed up the lan. under the card status it shows connected at 1Gbps

yet still it transfers at 11.5 GB/s (approximately 80-100 Gbps)
After downloading the new driver from msi website (from Jan 2011 instead of dec 2010) i now have insane network speeds. See below, thats over 100MB/s. This is a ripper

So would you completely recommend it even if heavy websurfing and flash sites?

Yes, by far it easily handles flash.. like a normal fast computer i have seen no slowdowns what so ever. A couple issues with exotic formats not yet supported yea but not any flash slowdowns even on fox.com (that has some of the worst flash implementation i've ever seen).

crushes 1080p youtube content, smooth.. i'm very impressed overall. not nearly as fast as the other mini quad core i5 i have, but for surfing, video, and htpc - its no different.

That's crazy, I was using a i3 laptop with arrandale, and with 50 tabs or so I kinda considered it almost too slow for web browsing. That's with intel gfx.

I have a similar issue with the Zacate E350. When I try to run Netflix at HD, the video is a little bit choppy, and my CPU speed meter is up around 90-100%. I just downloaded the latest E350 driver from AMD (dated Mar. 29, 2011), and there's no improvement.

After implementing the MPC Cinema fix discussed in this thread, are you guys getting smooth video only in MPC Cinema, or is everything working OK now, e.g. Netflix and Youtube? If so, how did you fix those? Thanks!

Netflix uses Silverlight for playback which doesn't support DXVA at the moment so you're out of luck. There's no fix for Netflix HD until Microsoft releases a new Silverlight player but you shouldn't have any problem with YouTube with Flash 10.2. That's one of the reasons why I'm not going lower than Celeron Wolfdale or Athlon II X2 Regor performance for the HTPC. Sure, HTPC's don't require powerful processors but imho, Atom and Zacate are just too slow and are completely unable to cope with situations where you don't get GPU acceleration.
