2500k temp/load problem

Thread Starter
Hi OCN
Just finished putting my new rig together.

But it idles around 38c in bios and windows (HWMonitor)
CPU usage is around 50% (When doing nothing????) Before with my i7 920 it was 0-2%

When i run prime 95 my temps increase to around 45c and goes to a 100%

So temps should be ok right? But what could be causing my CPU to use 50% at all times?

I'm going to reinstall windows now, to see if that will help. But since bios & windows temps are the same i doubt it.

EDIT:
For cooling i'm using:
Apogee XT
240mm rad
MCP655 pump
2 x Scythe something fans ( cant remember their name )

Clearing CMOS would fix any throttling problems that are keeping it at 50% if that's the cause.

Now i've been playing around alittle with some OC'ing.
But my 2500k seems to require alot of vcore

Havnt been able to get it stable at 5.0GHz even with 1.5 vcore
4.90 GHz takes 1.44 vcore, 1.8 PLL & 1.65 V for ram

Could it be because:
I'm using cable extensions from my PSU?
I'm using triple channel ram xD
I got a bad batch? L050A864

First, you messed up GD65 in your sig rig.
Second, 1.5V for 5 GHz is pretty normal.
Third, check out my OC guide and see if you missed something. It's down in my sig.

I just assumed it was a GD55 because it seemed like a typo you'd do when trying to press the button twice. Not that there's much difference between the 2 anyway.

I think the average 5ghz vcore is something like 1.47-8. You should try setting your RAM to a lower speed like 800 or 1333 and run stock 1.5 voltage on the RAM while you're trying to find you best overclock then crank the RAM back up and check stability.

Check out this thread to see some other 5ghz setups.

Linx isn't really the test for sandy bridge. I can get a stable run on linx at 5ghz 100 passes even with AVX on which cranks the heat up on these chips. Prime95 blend test for 1 min crashes my system.
