8800GT single slot coolers are notorious for overheating. Why is everyone saying bake it without first checking temps?

What are your temps?

i baked a 8800gts the other week for a m8 as well,
he was pooping himselfe when i did it but was happy as punch when he see it working again

His error was that it went to 16bit colours and would look awfull so i stripped it baked it and rebuilt it and installed it and he is now gaming again

I told him it was a temp fix and it could go again and most likely will but it is old now anyhow and if it does happen again then its time to upgrade.

Why is baking considered a temporary fix? I would think if the solder joints we're re-melted that it would make them like new and solve the problem until of course the card maybe overheated enough to cause the same damage as before, but wouldn't that take some time?

Solder does not like being reheated as the flux burn the first time second time they tend to corrode quicker but still easier than resoldering the whole board
