Dirty Much? - Page 2

You could always use some non-chlorinated brake cleaner. It won't affect the copper at all, yet will remove damn near anything. Be sure to wear some safety glasses when spraying it, trust me on this, it is not something you want to get in your eyes. It stings like a mother --would work better than mace and could double as a flame thrower.

PS: Brake cleaner is also good for removing residues off all kinds. After it dries, the item you've cleaned is completely bare. Nothing on it. Be careful around painted things as it can sometimes cause the paint to run or come off.

Also, be in a well ventilated room. Unless you want to party!

I never knew about that stuff. Safer than bleeding your brakes though (that fluid can make you blind!)

Doesn't look like Walmart (only store open right now) carries the stuff on shelf. Oh well scrub-a-dub-dub for now!

Sadly, the modern replacements for R-11 that some of us knew and loved, and may or may not still have a largeish supply of, do leave a detectable residue.

If you get brake cleaner in your eyes, in sufficient amounts, it can make you blind as well. However, you'd need A LOT of it, I've gotten brake cleaner in my eyes lots of times and have had no noticeable effects from it.

That really depends on the brand of brake cleaner. Each company seems to have their own formula for it.

A lot of it is alcohol, methanol, hexane, propanol, toluene, acetone and so on. It just depends on how they want to formulate it. But from that short list I've put together, you can see why a can of it makes a good flame thrower. Although, RAID wasp and bee killer is better, it shoots 25 feet.

I'll just stick to using good old R-11 when I need to clean something I don't want any residue left behind on, or that is chemically sensitive.

It isn't any fun around fire though, its decomposition products include hydrochloric and carbolic acid!
