PC does not... start?

Thread Starter
I've bought an ATI 6990, an H70 cooler and a TX950W PSU. i have installed it already, it starts just fine, every fan is running, the H70 seems to be very cold however there is no display on the monitor. I thought that might be the new GPUs fault, so i changed it to the 5870. Still the same, i even noticed that the GPUs fan was running extremely fast (the 6990 wasnt), now i dont know what to do, i suppose there might be a cable in the wrong place, (i had to remove the Mother board to install the backplate so i had to do it all again) but i cant verify it.

ive spent more than 1000 bucks on this please help!

At this stage the most likely problem is a cable missing or being plugged into the wrong place.

Check all the connections are correct and you haven't left any out. Have you tried booting with on board graphics instead of the PCI-E card? plug a VGA cable into the motherboard on first boot.

Best probably to start with as little as possible connected to the main board as I would be just after a bios screen to prove board, chip and memory are ok. Before adding any extra hardware(of course you will need psu and a basic gpu if m/b does not have built in video).

Check that the 8-pin connector is plugged into the motherboard.
Check and reseat the RAM modules.
Check and make sure power cables are plugged into the video card.
Take motherboard out of the case and try to boot it up on a desk or something (you may have caused a short between the motherboard and case).

i have the RAM modules(reseated them), CPU with the h70 almost flying in the air, the 6990(dont have an on board card) connected to the MOBO everything outside the case. The only cables i have connected are the 2 from the PSU to the GPU, the big one for the MOBO, and 1 fan from the H70 to the MOBO.
Still nothing on screen

If you want to try this it might work.
I say "might".

power off/unplug
remove cmos battery.
wait few mins, replace battery
This is a sure way to clear cmos.

Then power up & go to bios and set defaults/save.
If you've exausted all power connections, hardware seated, might give a try.

Sounds like you are missing the 8- pin connector to the MOBO.
You should have the 24-pin (big one) and another small one 8-pin near the cpu.

Sounds like the 8/4pin CPU connector to me.
