Thats 32 cores with 64GB of ram vs 4 cores + 4 fake cores and 24GB of ram. A dual i7 950 system would probably be equal/faster.


Not at all surprised though. C-ray is a raytracing benchmark, and raytracing is almost exclusively floating point, which Bulldozer fails at. Its a 32 "core" system, but it only has 16 floating point units, which should perform fairly close to 8 hyperthreaded Nehalem FP units, given the clock difference.
Keep in mind that the processors in the test are only running at 1.8Ghz - which is nearly half the stock frequency of a 950. Faster models would win.

I didn't include the case because the shipping costs for that here are too high. Instead, I'll b buying a Thermaltake V3 Black Edition for $50 from CompUSA.

Total is $698

I'd have to buy some case fans, too, so that's around $15 more. Still, you can definitely make a very nice gaming build for $650 if you're in the US.

Since when do Server processors get benched against desktop processors?

They should be comparing that 32 Core system, against Intel's soon to be released 20 core / 40 thread Dual Xeon's.

But no, we see a 32 core system up against a 4 core processor for example, how does this make any sense? They could've at least put Dual Xeon's in there so we could get somewhat of a better idea.

Bring on the real benchmarks!

Very interesting results, also the intel system has 32 real cores and because of HT 64 Threads
Want to see how would a 4x16 core Bulldozer system compare.

actually i think they disabled HT for the test...in the other test results, they say the i3's that are dual cores (with HT enabled) having 4 cores, not 2 cores/4 threads.

the test themselves do not say if HT is enabled or not, it just says 4 x xeon 7550 (32 cores), they are 8 core cpu's...in the other test the 3 i3 they list, are 2core/4 threads, but they are listed as having 4 cores...and since the motherboard that is listed for use with these cpu's isn't a dual/quad socket, i can only "assume" they are counting HT in with the core counts, and if that is the case, i can only "assume" HT was disabled on the xeon test since it is shown to be using "64 cores".
