$800 gaming build

Thread Starter
Hi guys, a friend of mine is upgrading from a macbook pro so he can game, his total budget is $800 for everything except kb/mouse/os.
No preference to AMD/Intel ect, he just wants the best performance for his money.

Thanks for the help, I apreciate it alot (:

Edit - He also lives in Cali, so links from amazon would be preferable due to no tax.

Yes he does, as he's upgrading from a laptop.

And by all means, if you can fit SB & a decent GPU into the budget go hard.

What games will he be playing?
Would he be fine with something like a 5770, or does he need the power of something along the lines of a 6950?

Something midrange like a gtx460 or HD6850 would suit his needs, as he wants to be able to run BF3 on mediumish settings.

After buying a monitor he really only has around $600 left. A Phenom II x4 build is probably the way to go. How about this:

CPU:

Motherboard:

HSF:

RAM:

GPU:

PSU:

HDD:
Samsung Spinpoint F3

Case:

And the monitor.

Ya, that's good. AMD is the cheaper route to go. And it works great.

Updated my post with links. It's going to be a bit over budget, the MIRs on Newegg saved me around $45.
