[BD]Crysis 2 for PC gets day 1 patch; no DirectX 11 graphics support at launch - Page 5

Honestly I'm not buying Crysis 2, I'm tired of the Activision mindset of advertise the crap out of something and all the tards go running to buy it.

If you say Crysis 2 doesn't need DX11, you are part of the problem. Why release the first game in DX10 then take a step BACKWARDS with the sequel...it makes NO sense. DX11 has great performance, so don't say it will cut your FPS in half because it won't when done properly buy a good developer, such as DICE.
This is technology, if we don't push forward we'll be stuck with craptastic console graphics forever.

Companies cut features from games all the time before they release them. Just because they had to cut DX11 from launch doesn't make it unfinished.

OK thanks. That's unusual except for Steam. Usually you have to download and install the updates yourself unless your playing on a online system like Steam.

The same could still be applied in this game, the user will have to force higher es textures. There are DX10 files in the folders.
It's only a matter of time until a user enables them so Very High and Extreme can actually look like description.

The reason Crysis may not have texture resolutions to your liking has nothing to do with DX9 vs DX11.

Shadow mapping requires rendering part of the scene twice (or more than twice) from different angles depending on the source of the light. This creates a 'shadow map', which is just a texture. The size of this texture affects performance, the larger it is, the larger the impact of the shadow cast.

Chances are that the shadow texture resolution was kept smaller for performance reasons. However, it makes no sense why they wouldn't include a graphics option/slider to adjust shadow detail. That option would take all of a couple of days at most for a programmer to implement fully I would think.
I see what you mean. This game needs better textures asap.
It looks good overall but it's missing that true Crysis experience.

Some kind of patch or texture pack needs to be released soon.

I agree 100%.

Crysis 2 looks worse than Crysis 1 even though GPUs now have 4x as much raw horsepower and another DX level to work with. Ask yourself why.
