Or they could try to adapt it to a new engine and only introduce new glitches. The integrity of the original's gameplay could also be lost. The overall feel could have been maintained but anything new introduced into the environments or weapons could totally unbalance the gameplay. I'm not talking specifically about the Halo remake, but remakes in general.

That was literally back to it's roots storywise. As far as gameplay it took a huge side step to the point where you might as well slap the title: "Call of Duty: Alien Warfare" to the box.
Relating to this particular topic:
Gears has been more of a progression of the story rather than gameplay. And I actually like it that way, too many games try to progress the gameplay only to return to what made them successful in the first place. If I wanted new gameplay I would want a new IP as well.
I only played Fable 2 so I should go play 1. I would rather play 3 on my PC if I could. I don't have any thoughts on how this game progressed or digressed.
I like Forza, keep it going. There is always room for more cars and tracks.
Halo is one of those series that recieved tweaks that really set the gameplay apart from each iteration. Halo 3 wasn't all that different from Halo 2 but you can tell them apart. Of course I'm counting ODST as a Halo 3 expansion pack. Hopefully the remake will retain the gameplay that made it popular.
