New motherboard ordered

Thread Starter
If you've been following my build log then you already know... If you haven't then this is your first time hearing of this.

Today my ASRock 880G Extreme3 motherboard took a dump on me. I heard a pop and smelt something strange after playing around with some OC. I could not get it back on at all.

So I ordered the ASUS M4A88T-V EVO/USB3 AM3 AMD 880G HDMI USB 3.0 ATX AMD Motherboard to replace it and Newegg is issuing me a refund for the ASRock. I hope I have better luck with this board. Maybe a few more years and I'll give ASRock another shot. I'm not upset with the company at all.... I figure it to be a manufacturing defect as the board did not protect itself enough when it had settings it did not like.

Check out the build log for my thoughts and reactions to it.

Popped? Smelt something strange!?
Check the VRM/MOSFET area for visible damage now, and report to me if you find any.
If so, this would be the first ever 8+2 VRM to fail on this site!

The M4A88T-V EVO's a pretty good board
But honestly at this point I'd stop and get an 870 board which'd
1. probably cost you around $20 less
2. likely overclock better (870 chipset known to OC well)
3. feature similar-equivalent VRMs that are great for overclocking
4. you're not using the integrated graphics anyway

I didn't see any physical damage, but the smell of burnt electronics is very prevalent when I smell that area. I've already ordered the new mobo and should be at the house tomorrow. I like having onboard video (just in case), it helps when video cards go out and I have to either troubleshoot or replace.
